A poor craftsman of the literary ilk who has made millions by churning out half-baked "novels" which have been devoured by our many nations' braindead and been proclaimed the best thing ever. It's poor.

Just googled him; the Da Vinci Code guy. So of the alleged three people who haven't read this, I am one, SJ is another, I wonder who the third is? The last book I read was "Life of Pi" by Yann Martel, I am currently reading "How To Lose Friends and Alienate People" by Toby Young (I saw him on Newsnight and he came across very well).

You may have opened the floodgates with this one ;) .
My personal top three:

People who won't shut up in the cinema, then act surprised when you tell them to.

People who speak to shop assistants, waiters/waitresses, delivery people, etc. as if they're somehow a lower form of life. Especially those cretins who hold up their hand to stop the assistant talking, so that they take a mobile phone call.

Tele-sales people who call after 9pm or before 8am. Surprisingly common, I've found.

Not quite as annoying as shop assistants, waiters, delivery people who treat the people who pay their wages like dirt, IMHO. The last episode I had was waiting fourty minutes for in Tootsie's (their slogan is "The Best Burgers you ever tasted), for them to burn my burger. When it finally arrived, and the manager came to ask how it was, I told him, politely, exactly how it was. His response?

"Well burgers do burn sometimes you know".

My response

"Not when I am paying for them they don't".

I left in digust without paying for mine or my girlfriends. I sent a complaint on their website and never heard anything back. Typical of pretty much everywhere these days unfortunately.

Parcelforce. I can get an item shipped efficiently in a couple of days from the States only to have it languish for a month in one of their warehouses and then they send me a note threatening to return it if I don't collect it within 2 days. And don't even bother complaining to their so-called customer service office. Wa****s

Are you referring to me attacking The Monkey Man?

Normally I wouldn't talk about someone behind their back. But he actually bragged about having me on his ignore list. So I reckon that entitles me to rave about one of my biggest sore spots: closed mindedness.

That brings me to this.
People that refuse to see the other side of the story. In other words…stupidity.

What makes me mad as hell? Not a lot. I think the root of most things that really get under my skin is hypocrisy. I can't stand hypocrites.

What mildly pisses me off? Just about everything that's been posted so far. My own additions:

1. People who drive like idiots and then glare at you like you're the moron.
2. People whose complete obliviousness to the world around them puts others in danger (see No. 1).
3. People who are a pain the ass to their waiter and then leave a crap tip or none at all.
4. People who treat public places like their own homes. This includes (but is not limited to) taking up grossly more space than needed, throwing their trash/belongings everywhere, and doing nothing to control their crying babies or misbehaiving children!!! My God, do I hate those people...

Amazon queries, too. You send their customer service department a question and the zombie on the other end gets paid to "best-fit" your query to a list of pre-made FAQs. They just send out the generic FAQ without personalising it to your needs.

It's only when you reply to them again, you get close to a human response.

I emailed them a while back to ask about the copyright status of my reviews and the feasibilty of using them on other sites. I got a reply saying that reviews are copyrighted. I had to email them back and ask the question again.

Fair enough, but I think most people make an effort to avoid hypocrisy. Then there are the people who are intenionally hypocritical in an effort to manipulate people, or the people who are so narrowminded that they cannot see their own blatant hypocrisy.

No, I have not. I am not sure I can bring myself to read it. I have read the Vampire Series, Beauty's Series, Belinda and Exit to Eden. Love'em all!!!!

I also recently discovered a new world of Phantom of the Opera books. Susan Kay's Phantom was retired, but now since the movie, it appears to have been brought back out. I have the orginial, and will soon have the new version. As well as a whole slew of other books. I am going to start reading all of them here soon.

With my ADHD, if the book doesn't catch me in the first few chapters, I put it down. In order for me to read it, it has to have really good imagery and plot. That's just me though.

What am I sick and tired of. Hmmm, let me see!!

The term refers to people who discriminate against homosexuals just as the term "racist" describes a person who discriminates against people of a certain race, and as the term "xenophobe" describes a person who discriminates against people born in a foreign country.

The term has been so overused and misapplied that it has become to be applied to just about anyone who disagrees with the political agenda of pro-gay policy.

Seems to me, it’s a term used to denigrate heterosexual males.
Sorry, Joe, but that's just plain silly. You may as well say "racist" is a put down to white people or "anti-semite" denigrates Christians.

Rich

The term refers to people who discriminate against homosexuals .
Not that simplistic surely?
The term homophobia means an "irrational fear of homosexuality or homosexuals". It is derived from the words homosexual and phobia (meaning panic fear in Greek). The term itself is however often broadened to encompass other feelings such as aversion to, disparagement of, or discrimination against gay people, their lifestyle, or culture.

I would argue that the root of most, if not all, negative emotions is fear. However, that's a entirely different debate. A phobia is defined as:

1. A persistent, abnormal, and irrational fear of a specific thing or situation that compels one to avoid it, despite the awareness and reassurance that it is not dangerous.
2. A strong fear, dislike, or aversion.
So, a phobia is not exclusively a fear. I seriously doubt anyone to whom definitition #2 does not apply would be referred to as a homophobe. If they are, whoever is referring to them is probably an idiot.

And I think your wrong about the second part Kraj I think it is used as a smeer against males that do not completely embrace male homosexuality.
I'm sure that does happen and perhaps that's the majority of your personal experience. As I said, I think the term has been overused and misapplied. I don't think, however, that the term is nothing more than a "smeer"; there are still many people out there who negatively discriminate against homosexuals based exclusively on their sexuality and no good, rational reason.

Discrimination is bad in any form against anyone. The only hope for a lot of it, is that the old people will all die off and hopefully the young ones will be more accepting.

Back to the gay thing.

Political Correctness.

I'm not much a fan of political correctness either. I think the 'movement' was well intentioned but has gone far overboard. However, it doesn't appear the criticism of Bidil is particularly widespread or severe and it hasn't been enough to block the FDA recommendations, so what's the problem?

Nothing really, just ranting on a ranting thread.

I started it thought i'd give it a boost. We have som many warm and freindly threads lately, thought we need some of the old blood back.

Kraj,
Discrimination is bad in any form against anyone. The only hope for a lot of it, is that the old people will all die off and hopefully the young ones will be more accepting.

?
You ought to tell your leader to hurry up and go then, you know that's the prat who thinks he the leader of the free world:rolleyes:

Back to the gay thing.

Guys I know above my generation will never accept homosexuality.

or equality

Guys in my generation have accepted it, and have for a lot of us chosen to not think about it much.

how can you form an opinion on the subject then?

That would never have happened in the 70s when I was in school.

That's because you're an American from Texas:eek:

In Birmingham University (UK) they have erased all religious comments from their printed diaries. e.g there is no "Christmas Day", "Easter Day", its just a public holiday. They didn't want to upset other faiths. Mind you, thats not a bad thing as its all brainwashing clap-trap anyway. Dec 25th has nothing to do with religion.

Also, many primary schools do not have a childrens nativity play for the same reason. Those that do have them have banned video cameras in case there's a paedophile filming the children.

The odd thing is, that no "other faiths" have complained, they accept it [christianity] as being the UK religion so are cool with it all. Its the fear of people upsetting others that causes it.

it's a good job Colin and I keep coming here as a moderating influence

My absolute biggest bitch; the red light running assholes we have around here.

Sometimes four, five, or even six cars will go through the light after it changes.

As if that weren’t bad enough…

Second biggest bitch: the Republican assholes in the State Legislature that repealed the intersection camera law.

So I’m thinking who needs red light cameras, when I own a 7800 lb, F250, 4wheel drives, 30 inch off the ground bumpers, blue monster truck. I’ll just start going when the light turns green.

Why wait for them little Honda car assholes to get through running the red light.

If you’re considering a new place to live, I would suggest going west, not north.

We have more than our fair share of red light runners already.

Thank you,

Kraj
01-12-2006, 11:57 AM
Of course if you go north, then 8 months out of the year you can blame running traffic lights on icy roads :p :D

This reminds me of a wonderful song:

[VERSE 1]
I like traffic lights,
I like traffic lights,
I like traffic lights,
No matter where they've been.

I like traffic lights,
I like traffic lights,
I like traffic lights,
But only when they're green.

[CHORUS 1]
He likes traffic lights,
He likes traffic lights,
He likes traffic lights,
No matter where they've been.

He likes traffic lights,
He likes traffic lights,
He likes traffic lights,
He likes traffic lights,
But only when they're green.

[VERSE 2]
I like traffic lights,
I like traffic lights,
I like traffic lights,
That is what I said.

I like traffic lights,
I like traffic lights,
I like traffic lights,
But not when they are red.

[CHORUS 2]
He likes traffic lights,
He likes traffic lights,
He likes traffic lights,
He likes traffic lights,
That is what he said.

He likes traffic lights,
He likes traffic lights,
He likes traffic lights,
He likes traffic lights,
But not when they are red.

[VERSE 3]
I like traffic lights,
I like traffic lights,
I like traffic lights,
Although my name's not Bamber.

I like traffic lights,
...oh God...

It obviously starts with the President and works its way down to the populace.

If the President breaks international laws, then that must give a good signal to the people that its ok to break laws and get away with it.

(I was going to say it gives the green light to let people run red lights, but its confusing:rolleyes: )
