Yesterday was a terrible, horrible, fowlest of football days I can recall. :( :( Not only did my Bears lose, my Colts lost as well. Ugh. Bears started game off bad and looking back on it they actually may have won if not for a couple bad plays where their corners slipped and fell and Steve $%## Smith broke loose for huge touchdowns. Oh, how hath I angered the football gods???

Tell me about it. The best defense in the league gave up two touchdowns because the corners tripped over their own damn feet. Considering how Urlacher made the turnover play that should have given the Bears game-winning momentum, if I were him I'd be ready to kick some cornerback ass.

Grrrrrr.....

I guess going into the playoffs with an excellent team and then choking against a decent-at-best team is becoming our new M.O.

I guess it's better than consistently sucking.

It's not just that the Colts lost, they blew it AFTER the refs AND Bettis handed them early 2006 Xmas presents. They were given more than enough chances. I also thought Manning's "trying to be a good teamate, but..." schtick was really poor form. Sure, the Colts front line withered many times in the face of the Steeler attack, but the Colts were able to put a bull rush on Rothlesburger also, and they still made the plays. A big difference is in Peyton's legs, or lack of them. He's a great passer, but he's horribly immobile, and any sustained pressure makes him look like an average QB. The Chargers did the same thing to him, as have a healthy Pats defense for a few years now. Before he goes critisizing his O-line (which DOES need a little shoring up), he needs to look in the mirror a little harder. I personally can't stand Manning or the Colts (love Dungy though), but I still think they'll be SuperBowl winners within the next few years.

Some pretty horrible officiating this post season. Even the League office said that the Steelers interception call reversal was dead wrong, and that's unusual for the NFL.

Seriously. When the Bears played Geen Bay (ok, that wasn't post season, but it's still bitching about officials so it counts) they were called three or four time in the first quarter for "lining up in the neutral zone". I had to have the call explained to me. Granted, I've watched a relatively small amount of football in my lifetime compared to most guys, but I've never heard that call before. And four times! What a load of crap!

Go Steelers! :D

THere were some very bad calls in both the NE-DENVER game and the PIT-IND game. The refs seemed to be pro DENVER and pro IND. Luckily, my Steelers pulled through even with the bad calls.

So in the average game how many times is the ball kicked?

Brian

So in the average game how many times is the ball kicked? Depends upon the scoring strength of the offense and the ability of the defense to prevent a score.

After each touchdown (6pts) the scoring team has the opportunity to kick a field goal for 1 extra point

After the extra point, the scoring team kicks off (kicks ball to other end of the field) for the other team begin their campaign.

If the offense manages to get within 35 yards of the goal line (more for stronger kickers) and they think they can't make the touchdown, they'll attempt kick the ball through the uprights for a 3 point field goal.

If the offense has been placed in a position where they are at their 4th down (out of 4), cannot make a field goal, and cannot push the ball to the point that they get a 1st down conversion, they will punt the ball away to the other team.

Bit more than i thought, never really noticed any kicking in excerts I've seen.Probably because usually, nothing "interesting" happens during a kick. Most of the excerpts will show the big runs or the long passes, game breaking interceptions, etc. However (:D ) the Steelers' place kicker has massive leg muscles and has managed three 51-yd field goals in Heinz Field, despite the wind...earned him the nickname "Quadzilla"

We've got a kid out here at CU Boulder that typically kicks 60-70 yarders during practice...the NFL is already talking about him becoming the first player to realistically break the all-time record, 63-yards held by two players, including our own Denver Bronco, Jason Elam.

What medications are used to treat obsessive-compulsive disorder?

Research clearly shows that the serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SRIs) are uniquely effective treatments for OCD. These medications increase the concentration of serotonin, a chemical messenger in the brain. Five SRIs are currently available by prescription in the United States:

Clomipramine (Anafranil, manufactured by Ciba-Geigy)
Fluoxetine (Prozac, manufactured by Lilly)
Fluvoxamine (Luvox, manufactured by Solvay)
Paroxetine (Paxil, manufactured by Smith-Kline Beecham)
Sertraline (Zoloft, manufactured by Pfizer)
..........:D

Nice to see that once again the USA has got its priorities right.

The New Orleans stadium has been rebuilt and is now open for business whilst the poor and the blacks still live in a hurricane devastated wasteland where there has been no clear-up operation started yet. Good job its only the poor and the blacks that have to suffer, at least its not the middle class whities.

You maybe should be aware that Paroxetine (Paxil, manufactured by Smith-Kline Beecham) is marketed under the name Seroxat and was widely used in the treatment of depression. However one of its side effects has been found to be increased risk of suicide. Hardly the thing to give someone who's depressed.

How this works with OCD I don't know - but if it works in the genius manner it did with depression expect Rich to be pointing out more often that the world series seems to include very little of the world.

I watched some of the build up and the first quarter of the superbowl a couple of weekends ago. The build up included following the teams progress throughout the season, both teams said that their aim for the season wasn't to win their "division" (if thats the correct terms) but to become world champions.

When do the superbowl winners go into a champions league type competition to decide the world champions then????

at one point in time there were two different "football" leagues in the US. They were both combined into the NFL (National Football League), but with the distinction of AFC (American Football Conference) and the NFC(National Football Conference). Within those divisions, there are the inevitable North, East, West, South...which, after all of the moves, don't really mean much. So the individual conferences have their respective top seed ( this year was the San Diego Chargers for the AFC, and the New Orleans Saints for the NFC) which has the best record. The remaining groups are rated according to win loss ratio. After the regular season, there is a "bye week" where the teams that earned their position in the playoffs can sit back and watch, while the teams on the fringe have to fight for the "wild card" positions...aka, you didn't do well enough throughout the season to rate the playoffs, but if you win this game, we'll let you in.

The playoffs, essentially work the way you would assume...the victor moves into the next round, two weeks later, you have the two best teams in the NFC and the two best teams in the AFC battling for the Conference Championship, the victors, moving into the Super Bowl. This year, the best team in the NFL, had their a$$ handed to them by the NE Patriots due to nothing more than better coaching, who, in turn lost to the pathetic Indianapolis colts and the extremely effective if not completly worthless Payton Manning. The NO Saints, on the other hands, managed to lose to Chicago, who had the better defense. So we had two teams in the Super Bowl that were not the best in their respective divisions, but managed to win when it mattered most.

Incidentally, no team has ever entered at the bottom of the totem pole and emerged champs until MY BOYS, the Steelers, entered the fray as a sixth-seed wild card last season and exited as the Super Bowl Champs.

How can something be 'extremely effective' and 'completly worthless'?Payton Manning has got to be one of the best quarterbacks I have ever seen. Great decision making, mobile, good arm, etc. (and accepting all of the credit for it)....aka effective.

He also whines, moans, and bitches when things don't go the way he wants, (the blame resting on everyone else) in the truest meaning of poor sportsmanship ...aka completly worthless.(I have another word for him, but it's not suitable for mixed company.)

how about extremely effective as a quarterback, yet completely worthless as a human being;)
