View Full Version : World Cup Predictions
Pauldohert 06-07-2006, 06:16 AM Just for fun lets see who gets the two below correct. After the fact we can check if the winner(s) backed it up by putting a bet on. (I haven't)
Winner: Portugal (22-1)
Top Scorer: Luis Garcia (100-1)
Seems I have faith in the Iberian peninsula for no historical reason.
Lyndseyd 06-07-2006, 06:39 AM My predictions are:

Top scorer: Crouch...just want to see his hilarious robot dance...so i live in hope :)

Pauldohert 06-07-2006, 07:23 AM Come on Len - give it a go.
Len Boorman 06-07-2006, 07:42 AM All I hear about is Rooney's metatarsals and the whole tv schedule has been turned up side down just cos a few people are rushing around after a ball.
Top Gear has will not be on tv for another 5 weeks.
Damn me if there was some incentive live England Win and Blair and all his cronies Retire then I would be in the front row.
Any one remember Roger miller from the Cameroons. Now that was entertainment
L
I predict that the wrong team will win:mad:
Mile-O 06-08-2006, 02:41 AM Any one remember Roger miller from the Cameroons. Now that was entertainment
Especially when he started singing King Of The Road. ;)
I'm being dull and predicting Brazil to beat Germany 3-1 in the final. With France beating Sweden for the third place playoff.
Pauldohert 06-12-2006, 01:58 AM I predict if England play like that again, I will fall asleep.
Len Boorman 06-12-2006, 06:28 AM Seems like power cleaning the patio while the England Paraguay match was on turned out to be a really good decision.
kept the "Football" people quiet this morning in the office.
What did we hear.... It was too hot, It was the wrong kind of turf. What a lot of c***.
Only the Dutch were more embarrassed. couldn't put a goal passed Trinidad even though they only had 10 players for half the game

I'm not a footb fan, but did the dutch play against Trinidad ?
Would that have been in 1923 or what ...
but yes, the dutch players are the most spoiled, ever complaining misinvestment individuals that I know of .

Pauldohert 06-19-2006, 03:01 AM ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
I predict the USA will continue to play like crap and make stupid mistakes.
What a load of rubbish, what a load of rubbish!

What's a load of rubbish?
Pauldohert 06-21-2006, 08:01 AM Just got this from the BBC website
"Iran have done most of the running and had most of the attempts, and they are well worth their draw - on the day, I don't think you could argue that Angola deserved to win the game."
Kevin Gallacher, Five Live pundit
What's a load of rubbish?
Our so called performance last night, in fact most of the tournament so far:mad:
Ah.
I've only been following the US's performance so far. UK isn't doing well either?
Have any of your folks watched any of the US's matches? The've been combining game-dominating play with stupid mistakes to pull a 0-1-1 record so far.
Brianwarnock 06-21-2006, 10:52 AM The US has played well, as have a number of "minor" nations, but the difference between the winners and the also rans is composure in front of goal and lack of mistakes at the back, plus most of all a great player to provide that bit of magic, England were c**p last night but J Cole and Gerrard scored great goals and we drew.
Brian
The US were a wreak against the Czeck Republic. The looked sloppy and off-balance on the field but they were holding their own. The Czeck's scored their first goal when two or three US defenders basically watched him set up his shot and pop it in. They basically gave the guy a good five seconds pressure-free right in front of the goal. I got so disgusted I quit watching. (Final score, 3-0 iirc).
Against Italy, we played great ball. We were dominating the game. Within the first 20 minutes we had three good shots on goal to Italy's one or possibly none, and almost the entire game was played on Italy's half. Then Italy got a corner kick and the US tried to run an offside trap but flubbed it up and handed Italy a goal. We would have lost the game if an Italian defender hadn't accidentally deflected a corner kick from the US into his own goal while trying to clear it a couple minutes later. It was one hell of a game to watch, but damn it was depressing.

Then I guess you either met them in person or you're living in a rather small world :)
Topscorer : Klose (Germany)
Final : Germany - Argentina
Winner : Germany

Matty 06-26-2006, 07:52 AM Yeek. The Portugal/Netherlands game was quite a mess. Too bad for the Dutch though; they deserved to win that one. They definitely outplayed Portugal and if they wouldn't have clanked that one off the crossbar, they'd probably still be in it.
Brianwarnock 06-26-2006, 10:20 AM I see those cheating Italians are through, if the pathetic referees keep buying their diving they should win it, tho' Italy v Argentina would be interesting from that point of view, strange how they are both wimps when it comes to real manly things , like war.
Brian
Matty 06-26-2006, 10:34 AM I'm hoping for Italy/Germany, just because I'm rooting for Germany this year.
I don't watch a lot of football (except for the World Cup, Euro Championship, etc), but the officals will card a player for an obvious dive, right? If that's the case, Figo should have been out of the POR/NED game easily.
Brianwarnock 06-26-2006, 10:47 AM In theory yes but in the Italy v Australia game an Italian deliberately fell over a prone Aussie in the Aussie penalty area and a penalty was given , and Italy won:mad:
Brian
Matty 06-26-2006, 10:58 AM I'm definitely going to have to see the re-showing of that game tonight. I only get to watch the games live on the weekend, since all the games are over at 4pm here. They replay them later in the night, so I try to catch some of them at that time.
My little Firefox extension keeps track of the scores for me, so I saw that Italy won on a penalty but I didn't know what caused it.

and I was always taught that cheats never prosper
Matty 06-26-2006, 04:59 PM Okay, I just saw a re-broadcast of the Australia vs Italy game, and that penalty call was definitely horrible. What a way for Australia to lose, after playing so well in the second half (a man up, mind you). :(
I heard this unofficially on Zidane:Zidane whilst Materazzi is holding him:
ZZ: "Ordinanza de tirare il costume!!" (stop pulling on my shirt!!)
MM: "Taciti, enculo, hai solamente cio che merite..." (shut up f*cker, you only get what you deserve)
ZZ: "si e cio..." (yes, sure...)
While Zidane starts to move away, Materazzi goes:
MM: "meritate tutti ciņ, voi gli enculato di musulmani, sporchi terroristici" (all of you deserve that, f*cking Muslims, terrorist b*stards)
Zidane proceeds to headbutt him.
