If so, what age group does it appeal to the most? Brianwarnock 06-19-2006, 09:36 AM I believe that it is popular with those of a certain mental illness. Brian ColinEssex 06-20-2006, 01:20 AM It has won various awards but I've never seen it - only clips and it looks stupid:rolleyes: Col Mile-O 06-20-2006, 02:29 AM The show is one of those horrible sketch shows that I tend to call catchphrase comedy in which the same sketches are repeated over and over and over again each week with the situation changed (supermarket one week, swimming pool the next) but the punchline being the same, based on each characters' catchphrase. It's popular in the UK amongst the student demographic. By the third series it was clear the the two "comedians" responsible for it had run out of ideas and were just scribbling any old crap down. Absolute nonsense. Other catchphrase comedies to avoid: The Catherine Tate Show, The Karen Dunbar Show, The Fast Show, Harry Enfield, Chewin' The Fat. Best British sketch shows of recent years: Man Bites Woman and Big Train. KenHigg 06-20-2006, 03:25 AM I was sort of amazed a the sketch that was on; Two guys were dressed in some kind of suits that made them look like overweight naked women. It all looked real and they were really gross as they made comments as they bent over, etc... I wondered how this was allowed when stuff like Benny Hill was considered inappropriate towards women... Pauldohert 06-20-2006, 03:44 AM A great show! Particularly like Tom Baker's narration. Lou and Andy - (scene where Andy spoils Lou's chances with his Polish girlfriend) and Vicky Pollard. The show is in part very true to what Britain is like. Lyndseyd 06-20-2006, 04:31 AM Absolutely hilarious show, from my experience all age groups enjoy it, i think it just depends on what type of sence of humour you have. Mile-O 06-20-2006, 05:41 AM The less you have, the better, eh? ;) Rich 06-20-2006, 10:54 AM from my experience all age groups enjoy it, You need to spread your wings a little ;) Rich 06-20-2006, 10:57 AM The show is in part very true to what Britain is like. I bloody hope not! Lyndseyd 06-21-2006, 03:59 AM Oi, i have a good sence of humour thank you, haha. Yes Rich i probably do need to spread my wings, although im only 21, give me a little time :) Pauldohert 06-21-2006, 04:49 AM I bloody hope not! Vicky Pollards , Daffyds and Majorie Dawes's are everwhere and the exageration for comic effect is tiny! GaryPanic 06-21-2006, 05:04 AM The first 2 series were very good - but they should leave it now as its getting repetative - GaryPanic 06-21-2006, 05:04 AM The first 2 series were very good - but they should leave it now as its getting repetative - KenHigg 06-21-2006, 05:19 AM . . . The first 2 series were very good - but they should leave it now as its getting repetative - :D :D :D Lyndseyd 06-21-2006, 05:24 AM They have stopped it now hav'nt they? Thought they finished it with the xmas special? :( Unfortunately lol BarryMK 06-21-2006, 05:29 AM Bloody hell! I'm glad I read this, I thought Little Britain was a reality show. Sergeant 06-21-2006, 04:00 PM We (wife=British; me=Yank) catch it on BBC America now and then. I think it's quite funny, but then...I suspect my wife has brainwashed me to think that anything British is far superior to anything American. Advice from a slightly Anglicised American: If you see a British show that you don't understand, wait a while until Hollywood copies it and they will dumb it down enough so you can follow along. If you think that's a load of rubbish, I only have two words for you... The Office. Rich 06-21-2006, 10:59 PM If you think that's a load of rubbish, I only have two words for you... The Office. Please don't swear on the forum  :D ColinEssex 06-22-2006, 12:59 AM We (wife=British; me=Yank) . . . .I suspect my wife has brainwashed me to think that anything British is far superior to anything American. No need for brainwashing when the truth is spoken.;) Thats why GWB has such a problem. Col Sergeant 06-22-2006, 01:50 PM Please don't swear on the forum  :D I'm not sure what part of that was swearing. OK, how about this old favorite... "Who wants to be on a copy a British TV show?" Rich 06-22-2006, 02:03 PM I'm not sure what part of that was swearing. "The Office" is considered to be offensive by the intelligentsia here ;) Groundrush 06-23-2006, 03:02 AM Has anyone seen Green wing? Now that's a funny :D MrsGorilla 06-23-2006, 08:41 AM "The Office" is considered to be offensive by the intelligentsia here ;) Why? I haven't seen it, the British version or the American one... Rich 06-23-2006, 08:56 AM Why? . 'cause it's crap! :D MrsGorilla 06-23-2006, 09:15 AM 'cause it's crap! :D Ah, I see. I thought you were talking about 'offensive' material, but you were just talking about stupidity. :D I did see a commercial for it one time (the British version) that was pretty funny though. The boss was telling the employees that he had some good news and some bad news, the bad news was that he had to let several of them go, but the good news was that he was getting a big raise. The sad thing is, that has probably happened somewhere. :( Matty 06-23-2006, 01:11 PM I actually like the american version of The Office, probably because of it's stupidity. :p I've only seen a small portion of a UK episode, so I'll have to see if I can find out when it shows here in North America. Rich 06-23-2006, 01:50 PM Ah, I see. I thought you were talking about 'offensive' material, but you were just talking about stupidity. :D It's offensive in that it's called a comedy I did see a commercial for it one time (the British version) that was pretty funny though. The sad thing is, that has probably happened somewhere. That was the highlight of the entire series:rolleyes: if it can be called that;) TessB 06-23-2006, 02:27 PM I wondered how this was allowed when stuff like Benny Hill was considered inappropriate towards women... Oh... I couldn't stand Benny Hill. Of COURSE he was offensive to women! He was disgusting! And I'm not even prudish! But, I'm not about to get on a soapbox about it.... ok.... just for a second. <steps up> I'm glad the bugger is gone! <steps down> Sorry if I offended anyone. |
