I am evaluating some software that requires the use of iFilters.

Now it states that iFilters for normal Office files are installed as a normal windows installation.

Seems though I may not have them.

So a couple of questions

1) How can I check if they are installed
2) Have seen that MSN Search Toolbar installs them but really do not want to go that far, Is there an alternative.

All info welcome

All you need to know about IFilters (http://channel9.msdn.com/wiki/default.aspx/Channel9.DesktopSearchIFilters) if you scroll down a bit there is a link to a bit of software that can show you all the filters installed and links to download many other ones.

EDIT - Just a thought if you are having trouble with the software check to make sure the indexing service is started - (start > run and type services.msc)
