If you weren't on line, you'd never know! ;) MrsGorilla 09-05-2006, 09:09 AM Even better if you could make it explode to really get your point across True, but then so many people would have 'exploding' ones that it might be a little rough on the eyes. ;) Len Boorman 09-05-2006, 12:39 PM True, but then so many people would have 'exploding' ones that it might be a little rough on the eyes. ;) Heh that's true but life is for living A little but of danger can be fun L Uncle Gizmo 09-05-2006, 12:41 PM What is the little square "green light" under your post count for? Matt Greatorex 09-05-2006, 12:42 PM What is the little square "green light" under your post count for? It's so you can still see the keyhole, if the light by your name goes out. :D Banana 09-05-2006, 12:45 PM Actually the green jello is reputation. More jello you have, the good boy you are and eventually you could get the key to the city. :p OTOH, I like red jellos..... MrsGorilla 09-05-2006, 12:46 PM What is the little square "green light" under your post count for? Contrary to what Matt Greatorex says ;) , it's for this (http://www.access-programmers.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=100756). KenHigg 09-05-2006, 12:46 PM What is the little square "green light" under your post count for? On this website/forum it's useless...;) MrsGorilla 09-05-2006, 12:46 PM OTOH, I like red jellos..... I'm sure there would be people here willing to help you with that. :D Len Boorman 09-05-2006, 12:46 PM You're assuming it isn't always green. If you weren't on line, you'd never know! ;) Hmmm a;long te lines of If I close my eyes tight then it is dark ....isn't it Oh yes Stars emit light ...yes twinkle twinkle Stars are millions of light years away yes So the light we see is from somestars that no longer exist true eh New stars are getting borne as well along with supernovaand all that other stuff So why are there so many dark patches in the night sky. I would have thought after all this time that all the stars, that are now not actually there but we are still gettingtheir light, supernova and other thingamys that the night sky would be as bright as daylight.# Must take my eveing pill cos the whisky ain't working or it is L KenHigg 09-05-2006, 12:50 PM Hmmm a;long te lines of If I close my eyes tight then it is dark ....isn't it Oh yes Stars emit light ...yes twinkle twinkle Stars are millions of light years away yes So the light we see is from somestars that no longer exist true eh New stars are getting borne as well along with supernovaand all that other stuff So why are there so many dark patches in the night sky. Len, I read an article on this very subject a couple of years ago. Probably New Scientist but could have been in the Scientific American. The answer, if I recall it correctly, is that the light from these mirriad stars has not got here yet. The answer, if I recall it correctly, is that the light from these mirriad stars has not got here yet. Hmmmm So at some time we will see the light from a star that doesn't exist !!! So we will be looking at history...Is that Time Travel of a sort L Adeptus 09-06-2006, 11:50 PM Hmmmm So at some time we will see the light from a star that doesn't exist !!! So we will be looking at history...Is that Time Travel of a sort L We're quite possibly already looking at stars that don't exist, and just don't know it... Think about how many light years away they are. Even the closest is, what, tens of lightyears? The furthest, I have no idea. Thousands at least. Say a star is 100 light years away. It will take light 100 years to travel to us from there (hence the name, light year). If it blew up 99 years ago, we wouldn't know... (when did this become the astronomy & philosophy thread?) Len Boorman 09-07-2006, 12:12 AM (when did this become the astronomy & philosophy thread?) Called hijacking or discussion development back to the stars So the little twinkling start that I was borne under was maybe not there anyway, I have been living a dream.  L Vassago 09-07-2006, 01:36 AM You're not really here either! This is just a figment of your non-existent imagination. Len Boorman 09-07-2006, 03:08 AM You're not really here either! This is just a figment of your non-existent imagination. Is that what they call a nightmare ? :D :D or is that another thread L Kraj 09-07-2006, 01:01 PM The answer, if I recall it correctly, is that the light from these mirriad stars has not got here yet. Another potential factor is large gravitational fields such as stars and large planets can change the path of light. Black holes can even trap light indefinitely. So some dark patches can also be due to light simply being pulled out of those areas before it reaches Earth. Can't quite conceive of what it is made of. |
