A yardsale is when you get all your old junk out of the attic and basement and put it out on your front lawn. then people come by and buy the things you have there, usually for very cheap. similar to a boot sale in The UK

The purpose of yard sales is so that you can buy some extra crap to sell at YOUR yard sale.

So its selling junk from your garden?

A 'yard' in the UK is a big concrete area - usually industrial for storing goods, vehicles etc. as in a "timber yard" etc

so you're not actually selling a yard then. Here's me thinking I could buy an acre or two.
