I think I'm asking the impossible here but here goes.
The following string is set as the default value for new records in field 'PicFile' on a form which has two other fields (the PK for the table record and field 'StrayRef')
F:\Stray Dogs\DogPics\2007\XXXXX.jpg
Would it be possible to type a reference number into field 'StrayRef' and have that number inserted into the string replacing the X's ?

I amended the hard coding to "F:\Stray Dogs\DogPics\2007\"
and put a command button on the form with this code in the OnClick event
Me.PicFile = "F:\Stray Dogs\DogPics\2007\" + Me.StrayRef + ".jpg"

Hello Brian
Never mind Brian - it's the thought that counts. Are you managing to cope with the prospect of your first summer free from the rigours of paid employ?

I didn't know whether to reply at first as I thought that you may be taking the mickey , I was late so you would be, sort of thing, but then decided that it was a sincere question, you see I retired last March(2006), well was made redundent officially, unofficially I stuck 2 fingers up at a new job description, Oh the power of age and a bit of dosh :D
So last summer was my first retired summer and by gosh was it hard
Do I sit in the sun or in the shade?
wine and soda or a beer?
did I remember to put the beer in the fridge?
nothing but worries and decisions :cool:
Cheers
Brian

I'm just jealous Brian. I look out of the office window and wish I'd made better pension provision so I could call it a day now. I fear the Lottery won't come to my rescue so here I am a bit longer. Ah well I enjoyed every drop!
