I am looking for an editor like Notepad, but one that will show the line number on the left. Like the ISPF editor in IBM.

Example:

000001 this is line 1
000002 this is line 2

If you know of such an editor, please let me know.

There are loads and loads but sorry can recommend one specifically to do what you need but here a good one to start : Editpad Pro (http://www.editpadpro.com/).

If you search for notepad alternatives you'll get loads more - I'm sure you'll get what you need.

Although it doesn't give you line numbers here's a great editor with which you can open/read almost every file/document.
You can even read/edit SQL with it.
