I have a button which runs a macro that runs a qry and outputs the results to Excel and automatically opens Excel. Once I close Excel, I automatically return to Access with the qry results window displayed. Is there any way to make this window close automatically once output has been sent to Excel and before opening Excel, or upon return from Excel to Access?

You don't need to open the query at all. Remove that line from the macro.
