View Full Version : Rak's music
Ron_dK 07-15-2007, 08:30 AM Hi All,
I finally found a site to share photo's, music, etc on.
Free uploading, free downloading and very simple.
So I figured I might upload one of my favourites, albeit one of my songs from approx. 10 years ago.
Hope you enjoy it.

Thanks Pono, seems my timing was appropriate when posting this ;)
Newman 07-16-2007, 04:55 AM I am not to much into jazz, more of a hard rock fan, but I like it a lot. I may try my hand at it. Could you send the score? And keep on sending them.

Sorry Newman, no hard rock songs from me, but one of these days I might add something with some "rock" ingredients. Glad you liked it ;)
BarryMK 07-16-2007, 08:03 AM Hi rak

Hi Ron - Just dipping in now and then.
Very nice piece Ron. Beautifully executed, great tone and timing. I'm just starting to use my fretless and it's good to hear one played well.
Cheers.

Thanks for the appreciation Barry. Unfortunately I lost track of the guy who played the fretless on this track, he really was a great player. I believe he used a Yamaha 4 string fretless in this session.
I'll see if I can pull up more recordings with him and will post them.
Cheers, Ron
Newman 07-17-2007, 08:08 AM Never heard about fretless guitar/bass before. Always learning... Got to go googling about it.;)

It's a fretless bass Newman. Made famous by the late Jaco Pastorius, who
"invented" the fender fretless jazz bass ;)

BarryMK 07-18-2007, 03:25 PM To add a little to that, the fretless bass guitar enables the string to contact the fingerboard for more of its length when a note is played. This enables the string to reverberate against the surface of the (wooden) fingerboard rather than have the note sounded on the metal fret. The distinctive "Mwah" sound that you can get from a double bass is the result.
A good example as used in rock rather than jazz would be on the Paul Young record "Wherever I lay my hat" although that also has some sound processing on called phasing.
Rak's photo shows a fretless bass with the fretlines marked on for dummies like me who can't play without them but you can also get necks without the fretlines too.

I forgot about that, but agree with Barry.
Fretless bass in rock was boosted by Pino Palladino. I heard he's now touring with the Who, but wonder if he'll use a fretless in these concerts .
Ron_dK 07-27-2007, 02:25 AM I thought I might post another song. Maybe somewhat more obese to digest in the weekend. :)

Hope you enjoy it.
