View Full Version : I may not be on the forum much for a while
boblarson 07-18-2007, 09:21 AM Hi all:
In a coupld of weeks, due to me getting an actual Access Developer position YIPPEEE!!! I probably won't be able to be as diligent, speedy, and proactive in eliminating spam and the spammers. I will try to check in with things as much as I can, but please be patient. Over the last 6 months, or so, I think we've made a good dent in the amount of spam that has shown up on the site and also in proactively catching spammers BEFORE they post. Hopefully that will help us out during this time that I'm not able to be "right there" most of the time.
This new position is going to be extremely busy for several months, so I'm not sure exactly how much time I'll be able to give to the forum, but I'll still be here as much as I can. I just wanted to let you all know what is going to happen and why you'll probably see some increase in spam on the board.
Banana 07-18-2007, 09:26 AM Best of the luck!
pbaldy 07-18-2007, 09:29 AM Congratulations Bob! And you've been very effective at keeping those *&^#*$#'s off the board.
RexesOperator 07-18-2007, 09:30 AM I for one will miss your succinct and illustrative examples.
Especially those with Snagit (I love it too).
Don't stay away too long ..
Hope the new job works out to your liking.
Fifty2One 07-18-2007, 09:34 AM You have been doing a great job, now I know the secret to how the forums stay so spam free. Most people dont realise how much extra a Moderator of a board does in the background blocking crap and zapping spam. Thanks for blocking, zapping AND giving the very great advice and answers to many glitches.
Way to go on landing a lucrative Access app developer position, hopefully your new position will be enjoyable. :)
rainman89 07-18-2007, 09:35 AM !!!!!!Congrats boB!!!!!!
boblarson 07-18-2007, 09:53 AM Thanks guys! It should be an adventure, for sure. I am glad I finally have the chance to focus, for my employment, on the one area that I have such an interest in.
Congrats Bob on the new job and thank you for trying to get me in the right direction with my DB
kidrobot 07-18-2007, 10:22 AM say it aint so =**(

Hey, I'm not going to be gone permanently, just won't be on quite as often (which lately has been about 20 hours a day :D )
Jacob Mathai 07-18-2007, 12:31 PM Wishing you the Best in your new job. Thanks for all your help. Glad to note that you are not leaving the forum. Hope you do not have to relocate.

Nope, it's right here in the Portland, Oregon metro area.

Ray - now that you're above 1,000 posts you aren't allowed to make mistakes :D anymore. Didn't you get the memo? ;)

uh oh. thought that was only a guideline not a rule
RuralGuy 07-18-2007, 01:07 PM Outstanding Bob. I'm very happy for you and it could not have happened to a nicer guy. We will miss your extensive, picture laden posts though. They're excellent. Stop by as often as you can.
Brianwarnock 07-18-2007, 01:12 PM Ditto Rainman plus whose going to illustrate my feeble explanations.
Congrats Bob I'm sure you will make it work out.
Brian
boblarson 07-18-2007, 01:21 PM I'm sure I'll be around more than it sounds. But, since I've basically been keeping watch, seriously about 20 hours a day at times (trying to put the lid on the spammers) it may look like I'm not here much, when in fact I actually am. I am still going to be looking out for the spammers as much as I can, but I probably won't have as much time to actually answer questions as I have been over this past year. I have done over 5,000 posts in just this past year. I don't think I was near the 1,000 post mark until things really took off this year. Most of it I can attribute to the fact that my current job sucked and I would rather be doing the forums than doing my actual job.
I won't be able, nor would I want to, do the same in the new position. So, that's why there may not be many posts per day from me. But, I'll still work it, as it is fun to be here and help out. Plus I can't give up my hobby of trying to identify spammers before they post, banning them, and then watching them get the error message when they try to log in. It's a great feeling :).
GaryPanic 07-18-2007, 02:21 PM Bob - big hug for youi with best wishies - hope the change is a sucess, and that you get pleasure fromyour new job ..
g:rolleyes:

The_Doc_Man 07-18-2007, 09:45 PM Best of luck, Bob.
Portland - a very beautiful part of the USA, though south of Portland along the Willamette (sp?) River is stunning too.
I remember visiting the Rose Garden in the city's big park on the bluffs near the Columbia River when on vacation with my parents many moons ago. That year someone had a super-deep purple rose, so deep that from a distance it was black. Only up close and when the sun came out could you tell that it was deeper than the deepest purple velvet you had ever seen. Spectacular.
Not far from there, I have fond memories of buying some apples from the back of a farmer's pickup truck. Fresh like no supermarket ever had, the size of a softball (baseball), sweet and juicy, and heavy enough to count as a lethal weapon if thrown too hard. Two of those were a meal by themselves.
I envy you, sir.

Thanks a bunch! I do like it here and haven't wanted to move where most of the Access Developer positions are - New York, New Jersey, Atlanta, Houston, Chicago, and Minnesota (at least the ones I've seen when I have been looking). Not that there is anything wrong with those places, but I prefer my locale and would not want to give it up. I took this picture from "Crown Point" which is just East of Portland heading out on I-84. This is one of my favorite places:
