Well done to Barry Bonds for getting the home run record, and well done to the rest of the players - for easing my insomnia.

As is prone to happen now and again,I couldn't sleep - after 1 hour of lying in bed awake it got to 1.30 and I knew the Channel (4) (5)? baseball was coming on.

I turned it on -

I was asleep in five minutes.

Perfect.

Ps when I am after an early night - I am going to watch the Beckham MLS show!

they should spice both games up ..
how about- every so often change the ball to a wasps nest ( but don't tell the players) - when they hit the "Ball" I will laugh my head off as they dance around trying to dodge the wasps...

Maybe they should just put random land mines in the field. The death toll would be slightly higher, but the game would certainly be more entertaining. In fact, maybe we should do that for all sports.

Like the Americans do in Iraq to catch out unsuspecting children and blow their legs off - still it stops them signing up to fight against the USA, I imagine thats the plan the US has.

however there are some great female singers as well

Tina Turner still looking good and she in her 70's

Tracy Chapman ( The Black singer - not the comiedian) Revolution -/fast car/ brilliant
the Carpenters - (old school stuff)
Joan Armstrong-armastrading (?) (I hope I got that Right)
and of course one of the most b fantastic vocies in years
eva cassidy

laren Hill - another reat female voice

As opposed to just bringing somebody else out to run because the current person isn't fast enough?

"pinch runner" (a tactic usually seen when a team is down by one run or tied, because he's quicker than the base-runner, and that one run is critical to tying or winning the game)."

Since a diamond is really a rhombus, a square diamond is surely just a particular diamond. In the case of baseball I guess they name it from the point of view of the batter, is that a correct guess? If so it seems reasonable to me.

True, but if a player focused only on a single base at a time during the play, they'd be out of contract pretty darn quick.

Each base has to monitor all four bases at the same time, ergo diamond effect.

Yes I agree - if a baseman looks anywhere at all other than the base diagonally across the square - the square is no longer tilted at 45 degrees from his perpective.

Only a rubbish baseman focused on one other base would see the square tilted at 45 degrees.

This discussion reminds me of the old British currency before they went decimal.

30 shillings to the pound unless you wanted the price to sound lower than you quoted it in guineas which were 31 shillings.
Of course the guinea coin was removed from circulation 100 years earlier.
Or you could pay for it in crowns. Wait, they only had half crowns.

I found this quite interesting:

"In the Great Recoinage of 1816, the guinea was replaced as the major unit of currency by the pound, with a coin called a sovereign.

Even after the coin ceased to circulate, the name guinea was long used to indicate the amount of 21 shillings (£1.05 in decimalised currency). The guinea had an aristocratic overtone; professional fees and payment for land, horses and art were often quoted in guineas until decimalisation in 1971. It is still quoted in the pricing and sale of livestock at auction, racehorses, and many major horse races in both Great Britain and Ireland bear names ending in "1,000 Guineas" or "2,000 Guineas," even though the values of their purses today are much higher."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guinea_coin

Of Course, given the source, it may be at least partially incorrect, but I still feel I got my daily dose of knowledge.
