Hi there

I need some help from some kind folks if possible please.

I use Excel, but only to a very basic standard, i.e. just formulas and maybe some charts.

What I would like to be able to do, and I don't know if this is possible, is this:

1) Enter into a cell a total amount, say £1,714,866,86

2) Then there are some further cells which break apart this figure and perform some calculations as follows:

For the first £250,000 of the million odd pounds it calculates a figure of say (0.1% x 250,000) / 12

For the next amount, anything above £250,000 and up to and including £500,000 it calculates a figure based on (0.5% x 250,000) / 12. This 250,000 is based on the amount above 250,000 and including £500,000

Then anything over £1,000,000 it calculates a figure based on the following calculation (1.0 x 714866.86) / 12

Basically I need it so that whatever total figure I put in it breaks it apart and calculates accordingly.

Is it possible? Am I spouting gibberish?

Thanks people:D

So you don't want anything calculated for the amount between 500,000 and 1,000,000 ???

OOps, yep. I do want something calculated between £500,000 and £1,000,000. The formula would be the similar to one of the other examples.

Post a sample workbook with various values and the figures you wish to generate.

OK, attached is a quick example.

I want to be able to:

1) enter a value into B1.

2) this value is then split out automatically in B3, B4, B5 and B6.

I am able to do Column C as you see from the spreadsheet.

Hopefully this makes it a little clearer:)

Give this a try, you can hard code your values if you need to but I thought this might give you more options.

Yikes!

OK. I did wonder if there may be some kind of "IF" statement involved somewhere along the line.

That is very near to what I'm after, but what I need is more simpler.

Is there anyway to do it as originally indicated? Curiosity, looking at the formula I can see what is going on, but what does the ";" in an excel formula?

As mentioned in my first post I only have a basic knowledge

BTW. Thank you for your extraordinary efforts:D

"More Simpler" ??? How old are you ?
"as originally indicated" How do you mean ? I said you could substitute values into the equations if you didn't need the flexibility of the reference cells.
What is this for ?

I think I will ask for help somewhere else.

Your time has been appreciated, but I don't appreciate the "how old are you" comments!
