I have created a pivot table of what I *thought* was very simple data...a list of dates with up to three different numbers (the result of a count) for each like this:

1/1/07___Count of A 23
________Count of B 25
________Count of C 19
1/25/07__Count of A 32
________Count of B 15
________Count of C
1/30/07__Count of A 3
________Count of B
________Count of C 35

...And so on. This SEEMS SO simple. All I want is a PivotChart of this data by month, but I keep running into 2 stonewalls after creating the PivotChart...

1. I cannot seem to get the data by month, only by day...I have clicked EVERYWHERE to edit this. I found it once, but when I went back to the same place later, data by day/week/month was not displayed anymore. Why would this change? How do I get it back?

2. I want the graph to display the data in three lines, as I am comparing A, B, and C. What I get is ONE line of data (A), and the dates divided into subcategories (A, B & C).

What am I doing wrong? My data and the graph I am looking for from it seems like it *should* be VERY simple!!!!!

Well, NOW I have gotten my 3 lines on my graph by putting A B and C side by side (regardless of the fact that the program put them above each other), but I STILL cannot get the program to sort my data by month! HELP! Thanks.

Well, now I am ALMOST there. It seems that I should be grouping by date. I have been trying to do this all along (it seemed obvious enough), but it has not worked. I have determined that the problem is that the original data had a sum at the bottom (with no date in the date line). The pivottable counted the sum line, and created a field with an (empty) date cell and 1 in A, B, and C. Having figured this out, it will not allow me to correct it. Even after I delete the total line, the pivot table showes the field anyway, with no data in it at all (and no date), instead of removing it from consideration. How can I correct this? It seems to be preventing me from using the "grouping" feature. Thanks so much!!

Howdy. Can you post a sample XL file? And with what you have done and what you expect?
