I am getting tired of having people hear me swear under my breath as I go down to the plant floor for the kazillionth time. Is there a way to prevent people from 'accidentally' removing icons from the desktop on XP? :confused:

I need a solution that would be a little more socially acceptable than cutting off some silly buggers fingers. :eek:

If your running XP Pro on a domain under properties advanced you will get the option to set the file permissions so a user can not delete it (can't remember specifically which tick box)

You can do it in XP Home as well properties > general > attributes but you only get the option for read only (you might have to do this from c:\Documents and settings > all users > desktop if it for all users)

Though these will only work if the users are not admin's (which of course they won't be if it's a work machine ;))
