If I enter 2-4 into a cell, as in "pages 2 through 4," excel reformats it as Feb 4. I don't want that to happen. Yes, I know I can use an apostrophe. I don't want to have to do that. How can I turn this irritating helper... just one of many... OFF?

Change the cell format to text.

did you change it to general? i know we had the problem and thats what fixed it

you sure formating as text doesnt work. i just tried it (2003) and it worked for me....
