I think the owner needs to take some responsiblity for this site rather than kleaving it to the vi=olutary mods to sort.

Serious problems occuring.

Yes admittedly I shouldn't have opening the thread, but in the past all that has been there then is links and a few sarcastic comments of thanks from proper forum account holders. Not images with links behind them.

The choice of opening a link to external sites is one thing - the actual content here is another.

There is more of this today!

whatever the link was - it is pretty hard to monitor , my old company did a total block -and after we lifted this -even with the best monitoring - some still came through -

Do the smart thing and just put your cursor over the title and you will get a view of the text in the initial post. I don't even open the spam ones unless it is absolutely necessary to determine if it is spam. Believe it or not, there has not been as much spam on the site as has been in the past and there haven't even been the numbers of spammers getting to the site. I catch a lot of them BEFORE they can even post, but some do, regrettably, get through. If I didn't have to sleep, I would be able to catch even more.

So, anyway - what will HELP for us here is to NOT open the spam as they can see the view count too, so if nobody is looking and they constantly get knocked off the site, then it will make it not worth their while to keep coming here. They will go somewhere else. If you all keep opening the posts and making comments within the posts, then they are rewarded. So, don't do it. Don't fall into their trap.

The only way to report the spam post is to open it though....unless there's another method?

Right click on the link in the forum (instead of opening) and send us a PM you can PM multiples at the same time so just put in

SJ McAbney; Pat Hartman; boblarson

and in the subject put SPAM - Please remove

and in the body put the link to the post.

At least then you don't have to open it.

Ok...I guess that works. More of a pain than clicking the icon though. Any chance of having the icon link from the mainpage of the forum to report obvious spam threads?

I wish, but that is a function of the VBulletin software, so I doubt it.

Fair enough. Never hurts to ask though :) I'm not too sure how much of the forum setup can be customized by admin/mods since I've never been one. :)

As I said in the 2nd post, the owner could allow the change Craig suggests to report spam/filth to the mods. A fairly simple altering of the code behind the forum.

This seems like negligence to leave it as is to me!

And you would be an expert in vBulletin admiinistration?? How do you change the vBulletin software?

I sense some animosity - I really don't know why?

I just suggest a site that a lot of people use form work should be free form porn directly within it which would get a lot of people sacked. and I suggest a method of getting rid of it easier for the users and for you.

I am no expert, but I have palyed around with it, and you can change the code behing the form from the software econtrol panel. I wouldn't have though it too hard to do something, that craig suggests (a link!????)

Another method would be equally OK - maybe stop images being posted?

I'd accept the excuse that its too difficult, but then I don't think anyone has tried (I am not dismmissing you good mod work at all). Rather - the owner thinks it OK to put his users at the risk of being sacked by opening a thread here. I may just go somewhere where that risk is taken seriuosly.

I work around the issue by having Bob on my 'buddy list'. Then it's relatively quick and easy to copy the thread link location, open the buddy list, and pm bob with the link. Maybe not as elegant as a direct reporting link but it's a quite workable solution, and Bob has always taken the appropriate action in fairly short order (as always.....thanks again for your tireless efforts Bob)
