Hi
I have an access 2000 database which is networked on a 2003server. I'm having problems with multi user access, as some users can't access the dbase unless it is not being used. Other users on the other hand, have no problem at all.
I'm guessing it has something to do with the machine that is trying to access the db. Although, it is not a permissions issue because as I said earlier, they can get access when no one else is using it.
We are all using XP pro SP2.
Any advice would be great as this is driving me mad!! lol

Just a an update to this.
I copied the database onto an NT4 server and tried again with the problem users, but they still can't access whilst another user is in the database.
Thanks

Are the 'problem' users local administrators of their machines?

Do the problem users have read write access to the server?

Is the app split, and if so do the users have a copy of the front end on their PC's?

Morning guys
To answer your questions, yes, all users have read/write access to the folder and can do so when they get access. No the dbase is not split in any way.
Here's a strange one. It appears that the problem users can access the dbase (when it is being used elsewhere) if they go through the File >> Open method. But, if they click on the link directly through the shared folder, they cannot get access whilst it is in use.

A multiuser db should be split (and it should solve your problem):

That's great. Thanks for the info. I'll look into how to split it and try it that way.
Thanks again

And, if you don't want to have to deal with updating everyone's frontends all of the time you make a change to the master, check out my Frontend Auto Update Enabling tool (and documentation) located here:
