hi

in Access 97 you can tinker in code whilst users are in the db
in 2000 & 2003 you can't :(
can you do it in 2007?

You should never make design changes to a copy of the database which other users have open. Keep a "design" copy of the database, to which you make your changes, and copy the changed result to the "live" environment when the changes are complete.

You should never use speech marks unless you're quoting, but i don't advise people on how to structure their grammar, I just answer questions on it if they ask

If you intend to present yourself as the grammar police, I would like to point out this quote from one of your previous posts:
i think the problem is the crappy text file i take data in from has a dd/mm/yy string field that i convert...but access doesn't like it...

The grammatically correct way to start the above sentence should be:
I think the problem is that the crappy text file from which I take in data...

I also observe, from your response:
You should never use speech marks unless you're quoting, but i don't advise people on how to structure their grammar, I just answer questions on it if they ask
...that while you claim not to advise people on how to structure their grammar, you were certainly ready to criticize mine.

I apologize if you were offended by my initial response; my intention was merely to caution you from what is considered to be a dangerous practice, not to offend. However, responding with a belittling remark is not likely to illicit positive feedback to your posts in the future.
