i have a report with a label in it linked to a word document signature

the signature has in it a hyperlink

abc&def@somewhere.com

when the report is saved to PDF, PDF writer recognises it as a link (from the @ i think) and makes it a hyperlink

i'm pretty sure it does't just bring the hyperlink through, property & diplay text from the report

anyways, when the PDF link is then clicked it comes up with def@somewhere.com in outlook

:confused: obviously the ampersand is confusing it

so i tried abc%26def@somewhere.com and mailto:abc%26def@somewhere.com

neither of which are converted to hyperlinks by PDF writer

I think either / or \ allows you to explicitly state characters that access reserves for other uses e.g..(abc\&def@somewhere.com)

I'm not 100% sure - i just remember seeing something like it in my access bible sometime today.

tried that, it's more subtle than that i'm afraid

PDF writer takes what Access displays (not what the hyperlink is) and then sees an @ sign and turns it into a hyperlink email address, but gets it wrong because of the ampersand

update: never did find a decent way round it, but came up with a few options

1) use abc&def [SMTPAlias@somewhere.com]
2) get IT to change the email address
3) everytime the user creates a PDF, use PDF writer to remove hyperlinks

I dare say the user won't be too happy, but I think option 2 is definitely your best bet!

It's highly unusual to have an ampersand in an email address and I'm sure it's more than likely to cause a few more headaches along the line; especially with the sensitivity of some spam blocking systems nowadays!
