am new to access and am helping my brother in law set up a biological database based on species and genus. Both fields are necessary to identify a specimen. More info....he has an identifying other text value for MOST specimens however not ALL specimens have been given such a value. Here's what he wants to do...

He wants volunteers to use a form to enter the genus and species and then have this identifying text value show up (called elcode) based on whatever the genus and specie are...you need both the genus and specie value to determine the unique elcode. I am familiar with Paradox but don't know how to do it in access...and the other wrinkle is the fact that you need both fields for the unique elcode to be found....

any ideas??
