I'm so ashamed of this question. I think it is quite easy and I tried to find the answer by searching the forum but no success.

I would really appreciate the help.

I have linked an Excel table as a database and now I can't open the original Excel file once the linked database is open in access.

Why is that and how can I get around this?

You dont get around this.

Access has the excel file open and excel files are not build to be used by multiple persons at the same time.
