View Full Version : Should Admin Bob Go?

Should Bob be "released" so-to-speak and sent packing? Is he overbearing, a snob, an irritation, a tyrant? What do you think?

I can see from other posts that there are a lot of people who think so. Vote in the poll to see.

One post and that asking for one of the most valuable members of the forum to go !!

Have you read ALL of the posts to do with the issues being debated?

Being an administrator at a forum is a difficult process, you can not make everyone happy every time. A cursory look at any forum will only show material that has been allowed to remain, a lot of things people do not see because an administrator has protected people from personal attack or being offended.
The administrators really work hard to earn what they are paid here, so if you are dissatisfied with the forums then ask for your money back
I think your 1 post could be better put to use. Why hide behind being a 'newbe' to start a thread?

And one who doesn't know how to spell 'arrogant'.:D

I agree, you CAN'T make everyone happy all the time and it IS hard work being an Admin and I have a lot of respect and appreciation for the people who do that job.

That being said, it is not fair to go around adulterating other people's threads, rewriting history, messing with people's signatures, and even outright banning people. That is immature, it is childish, it is arrogant, and I don't respect any admin who engages in that kind of behaviour.

Yeah... I'm not real good with participating on this one unless you can do under your real sign-in. I realize you may be protecting yourself from being banned - kind of a catch 22...

Then again you may be Bob, huh? :p

If that is the case, I'm sure we will figure it out soon enough. Neither Col nor Rich can contain their opinions on certain subjects.

OK, this doesn't actually help. Obviously who ever posted this thread is "one of us", OMG this is turning from a soap opera into a "who dun it". Seriously though, I don't think posting something like this under another name helps. Personally I'd have done it with my name on it because who ever has messed with the other poll thread has really peeved me off. However, at this stage I'm not prepared to point the finger at anyone. Bob is not the only moderator and not the only one with the ability to make these changes. By all means if it was him I agree he should be taken to task for it, but until I get proof I'm not joining any witch hunt, sorry guys.

I am really livid though that a moderator or administrator should act like they did with the "should Rich leave" poll. Jons forum was a great place up until just over a week ago. You could always guarantee you could come in here and get answers to your questions and enjoy some good humoured banter. Jon, I am truly sorry this has happened to your forum.

If anyone feels that I have in any way contributed to this mess, I will be only too pleased to quit posting once and for all. I'm not saying I'll leave, because the technical stuff is still brilliant and you guys are all great, I'm saying I don't want to be associated with the downfall of such a great forum. Maybe it's just time we all pulled together and just put it all behind us for the sake of keeping this forum together and keeping it alive.

So I've voted no because I'm not for voting anyone off until I know for sure they have done something wrong.

In my book, banning Col was wrong, and changing someone's signature just to mess with them is wrong. Bob already admitted to doing both of those things. What are the chances that someone besides Bob did all the other things? Not saying it isn't possible, just unlikely.

If Mr. NoDictator thinks that Bob was behind what happend to you, I will be extremely surprised to find out that he is right. It is clear that Bob is tough on Forum rulebreakers, so I really doubt that he would break the rules himself.

I won't approach this from a moral outlook but from a practical one.

Look at all the Access answers you would have had to have found out for yourself if Bob wasn't here.

Welcome back Col.

I also thought it seemed out of character for him. I know he ruffled some feathers with his decision to ban Col last week, but let's face it, Col stepped over the line many times and even continued to do so after he was warned. I would consider Col a friend and didn't want to see him banned, but there were many times I wished he would be a little more courteous to other members, in spite of knowing he liked to 'stir the pot'. I also know other people who have stopped visiting because of the acrimonious feeling in the 'cooler, and I don't want that to happen either. Obviously I then, am not the only one who noticed that Col's posting seemed to get more bitter sounding over the years. I'm glad he's been reinstated, should he decide to show back up and post.

I think Bob has done a fantastic job in all other areas of administration, in being helpful answering questions, in keeping the forum spam free, and especially in being a constant and continued presence when he seems to be on more frequently than any other mod and is volunteering his time to do so.

I notice that Bob has decided to take a break from the forum (see HIATIS).

Perhaps we could all benefit from the antagonists taking a step back for a breath of air for a little while.

I agree Cindy. I know we both remember the times on these forums before Rich and Col embarked on their long-running joke. Jokes are fine but this one simply ran for way too long. Many people didn't enjoy being the butt of their humor and left. One, it seems, decided to turn the tables and make the joke unfunny for them, and then left.

Perhaps Rich and Col will now finally see that the joke became untenable along while back now it has become harmful to them.

I want them both back, Bob too, with no apologies, but perhaps some new material.

Of course Bob should not go. He's a bloody good Admin and does a huge amount to keep this site clean of the porn filth that gets splashed about.

As I said in another thread, I overstepped the mark and got banned for a week, that was not Bob's fault - I pushed him too far.

Exactly and to the best of my knowledge, I haven't ruffled Bob's feathers at all, at least if I have, he hasn't told me and I really do expect that he would have. I just don't know who has changed the poll and I suspect we never will know. My theory is that the moderators will find out who it was and wrap their knuckles, ask them not to do it again but then leave it at that. I have mixed feelings about that. It leaves me looking like the sh1t stirrer but it also leaves the moderators looking shiney clean, and that I'm guessing is a good thing. If my reputation has to be sacraficed for the good of the forum, so be it. I think the work done here is much more important and it is important to get back to being nice to each other.

Don't take it personally. at least your username hasn't been deleted like Rich and Mike375.

I think we all need to take a deep breathe and step back from this. Once the dust has settled perhaps we will see this incident as a warning and get on with helping each other as we have done so well up to now.
