View Full Version : What is crazy and what is not?
ajetrumpet 10-20-2008, 05:30 PM I listen to a radio show around here that gives us information overload on useless stuff. It's about the funniest thing I've ever heard actually. They have researchers doing stuff on information that you never thought a human being would have the "lack of heart" to discover or even care about. When I need a laugh after work, I ALWAYS listen to that. Sometimes I laugh myself stupid. What a great thing to have after a tough day of trying to be "intelligent" at work! :D Anyone else have one of these relievers?
georgedwilkinson 10-20-2008, 06:08 PM The political posts supporting Obama on this forum. Though a few are well thought out, most are nonsense and make me laugh.
ShaneMan 10-20-2008, 06:17 PM My woodworking shop. Make saw dust fly and build something. Really good way to take your mind off things.
boblarson 10-20-2008, 06:23 PM I use my Battlefield 1942, Battlefield Vietnam and Battlefield 2 to go shoot people as I'm imagining them as the frustrating posters I've run across here :D

Ah man ... that's awesome therapy. I've no access to a shop anymore, I get to go out to the garage, sit and pickle a brain cell or two and think about a wood shop, though.

Yeah and the posts supporting McCain are absolutely hillarious
Ron_dK 10-21-2008, 02:46 AM Boy, I sure do agree with that! :D
Looks to me that agreeing with yourself is a bit crazy, ain't it ? :)
Brianwarnock 10-21-2008, 03:59 AM Of course it's not. I do that all the time. SOMEONE has to agree with me, and since noone else does, I thought I'd give myself a boost!
I think we call that blowing your own trumpet.

Same here... :)
What's your latest project? I'm contemplating the layout of a work bench area. I'd like to build my own cabinets but I've never built any...
redneckgeek 10-21-2008, 04:27 AM Good ways to blow off steam...
Walking through the woods - preferably "off-trail"
Industrial music
Trap Shooting
redneckgeek 10-21-2008, 04:36 AM what is industrial music? can it be played with a trumpet?
Don't think I've ever heard a horn section.
I'm not sure if it would work or not.
redneckgeek 10-21-2008, 04:45 AM synthetic, dark, aggresive, angry.
ajetrumpet 10-21-2008, 04:49 AM Really? I know a few songs like that, but then again I am a very sheltered young man, so I probably have no fu**** clue what I'm talking about.

I built my cabinets last year. Fun and good experience. One technique I will throw your way to consider. For your counter tops use 1/8" hardboard and use pin nails to put it down. That way you can change out the counter top when it wears out, which you know is going to happen.
My latest project is building a table saw station. I am increasing the left and right wings and adding an outfeed table. On the right wing I'm increasing it enough to also add my router table into it. I just got started, last Sunday, so it will be a little while before I'm finished with it. So what's your latest project?

And I bet your workshop is the size of a small bloody aircraft hanger:mad::D

A little over 4000 sq. foot, under roof.:p
Fifty2One 10-21-2008, 10:15 AM Working the farm is actually relaxing and sure beats having to interract with humans, but as an escape from chores I do for a ride or if the weather is bad I make noise in the garage fixing or modifying things.
WIth the cold long winter coming I have fortunately come across four boxes stashed away with Popular Mechanix sort of magazines in them... dating back to the 1930s... now thats going to be interesting reading :)

I gotta come up and see that!
ShaneMan 10-21-2008, 10:39 AM I gotta come up and see that!
I'll take you up on that offer, so make sure to do it and not just talk about it. I'm in the process of converting it to my woodshop. It was used for heavy equipment and lumber storage before me, so now I'm having to convert walls, pour concrete and etc. I think it's going to be the rest of my life project.

jeebus! Everything really IS big in Texas!
georgedwilkinson 10-21-2008, 11:10 AM Excellent! Do you intend to use it for fun or business (or both)?
Next time I go pick up or drop off my daughter I'll be sure to give you a ring.

More than likely, just for fun but a big daydream of mine and Julie's is to be able to keep getting contracted jobs and it turn into something that I can actually make a living doing it.
You got my number so just call and we'll make arrangements. Be sure to have your wife with you and maybe we can grab a bite to eat (4oz steak :D) and hang out for awhile.
ShaneMan 10-21-2008, 11:16 AM jeebus! Everything really IS big in Texas!
Naw, not really, it's just a little barn that I'm converting into a wood shop.
georgedwilkinson 10-21-2008, 11:19 AM (4oz steak :eek::D)
Uh, you missed a zero. Shouldn't that be 40 oz? (should give Col something to talk about)
ShaneMan 10-21-2008, 11:25 AM Uh, you missed a zero. Shouldn't that be 40 oz? (should give Col something to talk about)
I didn't miss a zero cause I was being sarcastic, now if I was being truthful, 40 oz T-Bone or Porterhouse would me much more like it.

The last thing I did was to dress up the posts and build the rails on the back porch. We just moved into a new house and I knew if I let the 'regular' subs do it it would have been a mess....
Ron_dK 10-22-2008, 01:10 AM So what's your latest project?
I'm currently working on building a recording studio. I designed it myself, and made the first error already. :p
See attached pic.
rotflmao. :D
what's wrong with stone walls and a buncha junk lyin' around?

Nope, when finished, only the finest jazz and world fusion music will be played here !

This is getting serious Wazz. Realworld studios is way above what I'm doing !
I understood that Peter Gabriel owned this studio ?
Here's another pic of my "mini" studio.
Btw, the mistake I made is the concrete fundation on the right hand side. It's some 4 cm's too low. I'm currently redoing that. And yes, if you wanna come over and help, you're more than welcome.
yes that's peter gabriel's place. i think he started it sometime after the 'So' album. it's really out of this world and way beyond what any normal human could ever do. but still, your place has the same look/feel about it. i read on his site (some time ago - i think it's gone now) that building the studio was a true nightmare and almost didn't get finished.

What does the dinosaur walking past the window mean?
Alisa 10-23-2008, 06:09 AM What does the dinosaur walking past the window mean?
I think that is about her disbelief of evolutionary theory. At one point she said that men and dinosaurs coexisted on an Earth created 6,000 years ago.
Here is a reference lest anyone claim I am making this up:

Not that I doubted you, but I had to look that one up
Never mind politics, should she really be allowed out on her own?

Just keep clicking, it keeps the pressure down :D
btw, there are different things behind the doors when you go back.
Friday 10-31-2008, 09:50 PM I, too, prefer working in the wood for relaxation. My preference is to "remake" stuff. I have an end table that was once two dining room chairs. I once converted a wooden futon frame into a stairway gate for my grandchildren. Right now I am making a poor man's high boy. The legs are what remains of those two dining room chairs, the base is from an old end table, the cabinet is hand made, and the drawers came from a cast off computer desk (my son found those in a dumpster).
