Thanks All,

I have been learning and arguing on and off on this forum for over four years now. The thanks I owe are more than I can count.

Some of you may be interested to see some of my art.

It’s mostly Northern Virginia, Annapolis and The District (Washington DC), with a little West Virginia and western Virginia.

I hope you enjoy them.

Joe

Flickr is a great place to share your photos. Last saturday they were showing a count of the uploads, and was 45,000 per minute.

Those are great - Thanks for posting the link. Somebody in the family has an eye for this stuff. The pictures almost go through too fast...

I wonder... Is there a technique in the order you show them that enhances the content. Say like water, flower, city, water, flower city, etc…?

Very nice indeed. You sure do show the beauty of your country. Is this a hobby, a job or a bit of both?

I'll break it down to some smaller ones tonight and reposted multiple links.

Thanks Ken for the heads up.

Plus if you move the mouse over it you can stop it and go to the root where all of the shot reside.

Thank you for the compliment,

It's just a hobby, I used to make TV in a former life, now I just take stills and try to find some beauty.

Very good eye Joe. My wife has been into photography since she was a teenager so I'm around picture taking all the time and your photographs are really good. It's one thing to take a picture but it's quite another to see the world in frames and know what to take pictures of. Good job.

OK, I'm going to put the file size limit thing to the test and see if I can upload a pic I took at Lossiemouth, just to prove that it's not just an RAF base. LOL, if I can figure this new fangled thing out, OMG old age certainly doesn't come itself.

Thales750

So let's have some camera facts

First a plug for Yahoo and their www.flickr.com (http://www.flickr.com) web site. That place is really well managed, and everyone I know, that uses it, loves it. Some people use it as a safe back up for all of their photos.

If you follow the links back to the photos themselves you will find information about the shot, the camera and its settings.

The first 200 or so were shot with a Canon 30D with a Tamron AF 28-300mm f/3.5-6.3 XR Di VC for EOS Lens

After that I lost access to that camera and was forced to resort to using my Fujifilm FinePix S5200.

I’ve played around with the setting and I’m pretty much getting all I can get out of it.

It’s extremely slow and the color depth is lacking compared to the Canons.

My next Camera is going to be a Canon 50D with the same lens as before.

Thank you Ken,

That was the last job i did before closing my shop, the pictures really don't show all the details, we didn't light it, we just shot some photos. I under bid it by $45,000 to $50,000, so it was the death knell of my woodworking business.

It is amazing. Your pub is about as big as my house lol! Very well done though. I don't get the "under bid" thing though? Do you mean you went that much over budget? If so, I'm sure Edinburgh council can arrange a few contracts for you, they'd be pleased with anything less than a couple of million over budget.

Ken also made a fantastic job of his house, ask him to let you see the pictures!

It paid $40,000 but depending on local conditions it should be between $80,000 and $100,000

The woodwork hard maple; complying with in level 4 Architectural Millwork, which means no surface fasteners, blemishes kept below certain sizes, etc, etc,

The finish is rated level 4 for appearance and rated to level 3 for durability.

The entire job was prefinished in the shop and installed on site using blind fasteners and glue.

We also provided the tile floors in the bar are.

Good for you! So you don't do that anymore, you now design databases?

You know in the Tarot we have a saying that there are no endings only new beginnings. Of course sometimes the series of events that bring about those new beginnings can appear to be devastating, but a new beginning is always on the horizon.

Thanks Ron. The first layer is called OSB. Basically 4'x8' sheets of compressed wood chips. Then the siding is referred to as hardie plank. It a cement based product that will not or decay like conventional wood products. As far as heating we have a heat pump that is supposed to be the most efficient means to heat down to the 30-40s Below that a gas back up kicks in.

So do you have Home Depot in France :D

Yes, what did you want to know?

Good news folks, we can just throw out the IRC 2006, Rich has reentered the building.

Virginia has, for the most part, adapted the IRC 2006 code book as the basis for the new state wide building standards. Most American, British, European, and Japanese residential building codes are based on the same book.
Now if you want to discuss commercial building design; as of 2005 or ’06, 49 of the tallest new buildings in the world, were designed by American architectural firms.

Yeah Garry our drummer is absolutely effortless to watch and brilliant to work with as a bass player, all you see moving is his hands but he still puts out a tremendous rythmn. His son is at Birmingham conservatoire and is even more talented. Shelley is a delight to work with too and very professional, I don't believe she has any concept of how good she is, bless her.

The pub is a tiny Irish pub standing about 50 feet from the National Indoor Arena and about as close to that stage as I'll ever get to play! The place gets packed to therafters and has the best rock audience I've ever played to.

By the way we saw Jackson Browne last night at Birmingham Symphony Hall - it was a masterclass in how to write, sing and play intelligent rock music. Great band. Cheers

If it escapes notice by the mods/admin then of course they wouldn't. If the mods/admins notice it then they will likely take action. Just like when you get a speeding ticket. If you speed and no cop sees you doing it, you aren't going to get a ticket, but you engage in that behavior for too long then the likelihood goes up that you would get caught.

Which gives me something like 100 K for 3 acres. That's approx. 70K € for
some 12.000 m2. Last year we bought 12.200 m2 next to our house for some 18.000 €. Looks like the land in France is cheaper than in Georgia

I could be way off on the value, it was just a number that popped into my head. Probably closer to something like $60K. I was thinking with the house it could have gone up in value considerably...

I'm guessing it depends on the location, size and lay of land that determines the price most anywhere. If you bought a large enough piece in south Georgia you might be able it as little as five hundred dollars per acre...

Agree with you there and also the price I cited is for agriculuture purposes, i.e no permit for house building. If it's an CU terrain ( permit for construction), you're closer to some €15/m2, which equals approx. $82K/acre.
