ice_breaker 05-13-2009, 09:29 AM I have a table including some topics, then I wanna link each topic to a certain page. For example: this table is in page 1
Table............................... Page

----------------------------------
I wanna link topic"Introduction to page 2" in Word 2007. Please advise. Thanks

wiklendt 05-14-2009, 06:17 AM hvae you tried making a "table of contents" (an automatic one built-in by office)? once you've done that, press and hold the CTRL button and click on the PAGE NUMBER to go to the associated heading.
ice_breaker 05-16-2009, 08:47 AM I know that function, but what I need for my case is that I already have a table of contents and I wanna link each topic in the table to a curtain topic below. Do you have any solution for my case?
wiklendt 05-16-2009, 01:54 PM soooo... not sure what you want. you say you alaready have what i described - what's different about what you want to what you have?
wiklendt 05-16-2009, 02:07 PM ...and what do you mean by "curtain" topic?
ice_breaker 05-17-2009, 01:18 AM I mean I wanna link a curtain topic in the table, for example, introduction to page 2.
I know the built-in function in Word 2007, but it doesn't work in my case because I have a designed table based on my format and I wanna link these topics to pages below. Is that clear? If not, pls let me know.
Thanks,
Ice.
stopher 05-17-2009, 03:08 AM Is it a hyperlink that you are after (Insert=>Hyperlink)? You could hyperlink to a bookmark or title for example.

wiklendt 05-17-2009, 04:20 PM oh, i think i get you - do you mean you have a reference in the text (not TOC) and want to jump from one area of the document to another? i remember doing this all the time in pre-2007 vesions, it should be in the "reference and index" menu, but i'll have to check in 2007... gimme a moment.
if i have again misunderstood you, please retry to explain, but this time DON'T use the word "curtain".
wiklendt 05-17-2009, 04:24 PM to cross reference text in your 2007 word document, use "Insert|Cross referece"
and like stopher said, it inserts it as a hyperlink.

ice_breaker 05-19-2009, 08:42 AM It works, but there's another issue. In the table of contents, there are 6 topics, I could just be able to link to 3 topics, the rest 3 topics don't show up in the cross-reference. How I add these into the cross-reference? Have you ever faced this situation? Please advise
wiklendt 05-19-2009, 12:53 PM that would be a TOC level setting. when you create your TOC, you can choose how many levels down your TOC goes for your headings. the default i think is actually 3. try changing it.
in 2007, it goes like this: right-click your TOC, select "Edit field". a dialog box opens and now press the "Table of Contents..." button. another dialog opens, press "options..." down the bottom.
(see image below) here you can select which heading levels appear in your TOC. those that appear in your TOC ought to be automatically 'linked' and clickable.
is this what you mean?

(oh, and i just found that in word 2007, "cross-reference" is also available from the "references" ribbon menu under the "captions" menu group... sorry, though, that darned ribbon mean a whole new terminology that i just haven't learnt yet. i hope you know what i mean...)
ice_breaker 05-20-2009, 02:31 AM It tried exactly your guidance but it still doesn't show the rest of the topics. It says "Error! No table of contents entries found."
Any other solution? Please advise
wiklendt 05-20-2009, 04:36 AM can you post a zip of your file?
ice_breaker 05-20-2009, 07:52 AM The file weighs >300Kb, so I can't upload here. Hence, I use rapidshare instead.

Many thanks for your guidance,
Ice.
ice_breaker 05-20-2009, 08:13 AM Now, I know why it can't be able to link to topics below because the headings are in normal style, so I changed it to heading style and it works :)
I wanna thank you for your patience and guidance.
Ice.
wiklendt 05-20-2009, 02:09 PM no worries - glad you figured it out. :) sorry for my lack of timely response - it was bed time over here ;)
