Since the economy has been on the fritz, my job has decreased continuously in quantity. I have done several different things over the pass few months to make myself look "busy". i.e. now I peruse the threads here, I have started reading a book on VBA called "Beginning Access 2003 VBA by Denise Cosnell. Before it was blocked by the stupid "Sonicwall" I was on facebook quite a bit.

Do any of you have a similar problem and cope with it the same way or any different ways and what are they?

e-mail, Facebook, AWF, creating database samples (this actually LOOKS like it could be my job). Every now and then, I'll do some real work.

I'm not the only one! :)

I was even told by my boss that as long as I "look" busy he doesn't care what I am doing....

I forgot to throw in napping, IMing (usually with co-workers so it looks like work), stopping by other bored workers desks so it looks like we're collaborating, etc.

I really do wish I could do this, but my desk it right out in the open. Although (I need a smiley with little devil horns here) there is a little computer room off to the side I could hide in. Something to consider.

Our company, however does not encourage interoffice mingling.:rolleyes:

We all have our "queit" moments at work, but if it persists I would recommend either getting a new job or a straight jacket ;)

I hope it doesn't come to that :D

Generally, I find a job gets boring when you're no longer learning anything. That's what this forum is for, you can learn loads every day, like what idiots grow on trees in Calefornia :D

Also, given the economy, I fear I would have a hard time finding another job. Houston has fared better than other cities, given our industry and the fact that we are a major port, but still being effected.

I am certainly not learning anything new..... I love the forum, even when I take on more than I can handle in answering someones post, or sometimes answer incorectly due to incomplete, inaccurate knowledge, :p I definitely feel like I am learning something here, and the conversation is not half bad either.

I know what you mean, I sometimes think I'll answer a question just to help the person get a decent response because mine is guaranteed to be pathetic, but if it nudges one of the Gods out of their box, that's good enough for me :D

As long as they don't use it in judgement against you;)

Let them do their worst! Someone's opinion isn't going to kill me, and if it did, it wouldn't matter 'cos I'd be too dead to notice. :D

Heh I usually do facebook or random wikipedia entries. It's interesting to see what other people do.

I amuse myself by reading the questions posted by a certain member named Aman. Shouldn't be saying that but some of his questions are quite amusing.

I spend plenty of time on here when I'm bored. I also do the random wikipedia readings.

Wait, bored at work? Surely you jest! There's always plenty of work to be done! In fact, I shouldn't be here right now... where's my Query Analyzer? ;)

I've seen a lot of people start "punning" when they're bored in the WC. See the thread about the Osprey in Current events, as an example.

That's always been a common occurrence here. Did you miss out on the swine flu thread? The pun creators were hogging the thread, it was beginning to boar me... :D

No, I was pretty much snorting around in that thread too. :D

I find that distractions like that help my productivity at work, I really can concentrate better on two things at once, as long as one of them captures my interest :o
