I am currently running Windows 98, the first version. Before I started using Access I very rarely "locked up." But now, after installing and using Access, I get very frequent crashes of the Access program, not my whole computer just Access. It says it is very sorry but it is shutting down and do I want to send an error message to Microsoft. Then it shuts Access down and I have to reopen the program. It also creates a backup file everytime it does this. Is this happening because I am using Windows 98? Do you think it would help if I upgraded to Windows XP. Thanks.

I have used Access on Win98, WinME and WinXP and I only had problems with ME. This is purely anecdotal and you should not give it any weight as far as your decision is concerned.

Thanks Jack. I am using Access 2002, have you used this latest version with no problems also. I'm just wondering if 2002 was redesigned so that it works better with Windows XP.

I do not have 2002 so I haven't a clue if there are problems or not. I would suspect that if MS was having a consistent problem like yours that they would post a article on the Knowledge Base. Take a look there....
