Is it possible to create a customized combo or dropdown list button on a toolbar?

I can create toolbar buttons, change their names & pictures, but have no idea how I would begin to create a button similar in style to the Font dropdown, or Object dropdown in standard toolbars. Any ideas?

Is it impossible? Thanks!
