My boss came to me with a question, and I gave him the best answer I could. He wants to know if Access is suitable for dumping 3 million records a night into. I said that with a multiple back-end setup it could be feasible, but that it's not ideal.
So, what do you guys think? Can I use some sort of multiple back-end archived data setup with Access to perform this function or would it be better to request that our IS department create the tables for us on the actual backend AS/400 servers?

I think My SQL or the Express (free) version of SQL Server 2008

I think this is such a strange question
if you really have a system producing 3 million records per night, then no doubt you are a PLC, have a substantial IT department, already know the answer, and/or can afford to and should be paying for professional advice - because 3 million records per night, is not a "normal" requirement, and is/should be just part of your overall IT strategy.
otherwise, try it and see....

If you want to backup 3 million records (effeciently) every night then you need to consult companies that specialise in this field who can analyse your business/equipments and come up with a backup strategy for your company.
