I have some dry cleaning to get done? 2012 seems very popular with some groups as the end of the world?

We all have differnat beliefs and interpretations of observations, so does anyone think about the end of the world, and if they do when do they think it will be? Will it be when teh sun burns out, or global warmin takes its toll, or an Armeggedon type event.

Its the new year lets see how this thread goes. Judging by the the "Anyone finding it financially ...." I'm not convinced it will go so well.

Please define the end of the world, do you just mean the end of mankind?.

I admire you honesty in your interest in self, if not your interest in self in itself.

Though I doubt it of much interest to those who dont know you.

The only other answer I can come up with is when the world explodes and ceases to be a planet, all other scenarios mean that the world is still here, possibly even with life in the form of bacteria.

Well Anthony this thread did not exactly set the world alight , was it prompted by the Mayan alleged "prophecy".

There has been an article in our press recently and there appears to be some disagreement by the experts , when isn't there, as to what the calendar actually means, but the article also mentioned that people are buying bunkers to withstand whatever is going to happen so that they survive. This raises an interesting question, would you want to be a survivor on a planet that had suffered a major disaster, wiping all life as we know it?

I would have thought for the religious the answer is simple, but anyway what do people think?
I do not want to hijack your thread but just add to it, is that ok?

Brian

O yes my answer is no

In approx 1 billion years, probably just before lunch :p.

Scientists reckon that by then the expansion of the Sun during it's transition to a red giant will have completely destroy the Earth biosphere.

Now don't get me started on the so called Mayan prediction I'll leave that up to Neil Degrasse - clicky (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-HghEBxHvgg)

I wont use Johnsons then!

This thread was prompted by listening to radio 4, which was talking about the various beliefs (from the science to the religiuos and all in between) a week or two ago.
I thought maybe some on the forum, who have an interest in the universe and physics would have found this thread a perfect setting to discuss their theories.

Adding to the thread is good Brian - and my answer to your question is no also. That sounds like hell, the survivor wouldnt last long would they in such an alien environment.

If it was just me and Scarlet Johanson left in an island paradise - then the answer is yes!

LOL, in that scenario an old guy like me wouldn't last long but what a way to go.
