In report design view I can tab so that I can scroll thru the horizontal grey bars representing headers & footers, but I cannot escape from a header into the controls that lie inside the header (using my keyboard I mean) With a mouse its point & click, but I’m a keyboard person. Please advise.

If I understand you correctly you want to be able to just to use your keyboard when in your report design view for selecting controls, changing properties, resizing, inserting etc.

The are a number of access keys that can help you. Have a look at Access help under 'Access Keys'

Personally speaking I use the mouse as I find it much quicker.
