I've created a few link tables in Excel which work fairly OK. But there seems to be a hitch...if 2 users attempt to use a combo box that refers to the same link table at the same time, 1 of them gets this message:

"The Microsoft Jet Engine cannot open the file tbl1.xls. It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view its data".


I've changed the Excel file to being a shared one but to no effect.
Has anyone else had this problem?

Access opens all non-tables in exclusive mode because it needs to be able to allow you to update them. I would suggest getting rid of the spreadsheets and importing the data. If you need to, you can let your users export current versions of the spreadsheet.
