Is it possible to name fields first in table design then go back and format them all the same at one time without formatting each one individually?

I tried highlighting all the fields but the formatting cell disappeared.

It should be possible. If you set up your defaults for your fields to be, say, Text, 50, then all fields you create will be formatted that way.

Go to Tools, Options, Tables/Queries and the various options for your basic design will be available. The Datasheet tab will give you control over the font, background, column width and so forth.
