I have no clue how to save the report we have to a format that is editable. If I try saving to a word document only the text shows up. No tick boxes or other graphic type stuff.

Save your report in PDF format. Or, create a template in Word as per the layout you'd like to. Next, merge the query on which your report is based with your Wordr template.
