Hi Access friends. Been gone for the last week. My brother Steve died unexpectedly in his sleep 11/19. He was only 52. I'm getting paranoid about answering the phone. First the leukemia, now this. Worst holiday season ever. He was my idol growing up, I can't believe he is gone. Anyone else out there lose a loved one unexpectedly?

I am so so sorry about your brother, Friday!
It must have been quite a shock since he was really relatively young.
My condolences to you and your family.

Thanks, Tess. Yes, it was a shock. No sickness or anything to warn anyone. Anyone who is interested, here (http://www2.indystar.com/cgi-bin/obituaries/index.php?action=show&id=49931) is his obit and here (http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?Date=20051125&Category=NEWS01&ArtNo=511250437) is another article that ran the next day.

Just my dog, last week, when her hip was completely shattered after running out in front of a car. :(

Damn, Milo, that's bad, too. Did the driver stop or keep going?

it's really sad to hear these things happened to you.. I hope everything will work out fine soon.. As for me.. I just saw a bruise in my Dogs left chest..i just wish it will heal soon.. it got infected and i had to clean it with Iodine and cover it so germs wouldn't invade the wound...

Stopped. My sister and her fiance were the pair in the car, so they feel bad but, overall, it was the dog's fault.

Sorry to hear of your loss Friday! My fiance lost his brother of a brain tumour, he was only in his early 30s! My dad also lost his brother in a car crash - he was only 21 when it happened. It's very sad to lose someone so close to you. My deepest sympathy to you and your family :(

Stewart - Also sorry to hear about your dog. It can be equally as heartbreaking to lose a pet as well. My brothers dog was ran over a few years ago now, hit and run and he was absolutely devastated.

Mile-O, I empathise with your loss, its awful to lose a dog at anytime - worse when its not expected. - I was devastated when we had our put to sleep having had him for 15 years.:(

Been away from the 'cooler for a while (been busy) but I'm sorry to hear about your loss, Friday. I'm afraid I don't know what you're talking about with the leukemia though. :o Maybe I've been away longer than I thought.

I remember when my Mom was diagnosed with lung cancer back in 1993. She only lasted two months and passed away at the first of January. I know we were fortunate to at least have that last holiday season to spend with her. When my grandmother passed, she was in intensive care and passed away the day after Christmas. It's horrible to lose a loved one at any time, but to me, it always seems worse around the holiday season. I'm very sorry. Your brother sounds like he was a great guy.

Sorry to hear of your loss Friday, to have to take two blows so close is tough, but there does not have to be a third, try and be positive and with the love and help of family and friends you will pull through.

I've not been visiting as much as I used to and have missed out on a quite a bit, so didn't know about the Leukaemia either. Friday, I'm so sorry about that and your brother. I know how close I am to my sisters and can't imagine how you feel.

Praying for you - and keep those spirits high! Ally x

I lost my dog this morning :( He was a good age but his back legs were away, he couldn't walk in the end and he was suffering so the kindest thing was to put him to sleep. He will be missed dearly :(

Here's a pic of him in his better younger days.

Hayley:

So sorry to hear of your loss. What a nice looking dog. I'm sure you will miss him. We have 7 dogs, last year we had to put one to sleep (total was 8 then) and we still miss him. :(

My 7 dogs, that's a lot! You become so attached to them, they are just one of the family really.

I hope you are coping ok Friday. My neighbour lost her dad last month and she wasn't going to put any christmas decorations up this year but that's not what he would have wanted. I know it will be difficult for you and your family this christmas but it will get easier.

Take care

It was originally 9 dogs, several years ago. All in the house in the winter ! But it is fun when you come home from work and there are 7 idiots barking and jumping and just really happy to see you.

Thanks for the kind words, Hay. Yes, christmas will be tough this year, but we all plan to celebrate anyway. Steve would never condone sad behavior for long.

By the way....my youngest is looking at overseas schooling for next year. Some sort of transfer schooling, and one of the schools is in Scotland. What does it cost to rent a space there (I think one of the locations she was looking at was Fife).

1 deg Cent

If it was 34 C we would n't use a chill factor we would use a heat index.

In Fife area you would be looking in the range of £80 - £110 a week to rent a two bedroomed place (for the least expensive places that is) It's not a bad little area actually, central to a lot of nice places and fine and near the capital.

I quite agree Rich, the four Fife teams aren't all that what with Cowdenbeath, East Fife, Raith Rovers and Dunfermline being our only hopefuls. One SPL team there though, I do have a soft spot for Raith though and they don't exactly see eye to eye with Dunfermline

Thank Goodness for The Glasgow Rangers :p :D

Is that pounds? or Euros? I'm pretty dense with that stuff. If it's pounds, that comes to $200 a week for rent. I sure hope she finds a cheaper deal (on campus)...:D

That's pounds, I hope we never get the Euro but I think it will happen eventually  When is she planning on coming over or is it just an idea at the moment? She ought to come out with Lyns and I, We'll take her out and give her a nice scottish welcome ;)

If she goes, it will probably be Spring 2007. I'm not sure which location will decide on, she wants to go to Scotland, but she can go to Harlaxton cheaper. If she does go, I am planning to visit her at semester break. Maybe I'll get to meet some of the group...
