View Full Version : New Years Resolutions--or lack there of
selenau837 12-30-2005, 11:02 AM Happy New Year everyone!! :D
So, what New Years Resolutions are you going to make and what is the probability of sticking to them.
I'll start it.
1. Stop Smoking -- (had quit for almost 2 yrs, then seperate, started again:mad: )
2. Continue in the raising of my two beautiful daughters. Let them know that even if mommie and daddy aren't living together, that they are still loved VERY much.
3 Stop being so shy. (yes it is true folks, I am VERY shy, quiet and reserved)
4. Maintain my 3.5 GPA and apply for Phi Theta Kappa, and the National Honors Society. Must keep 3.5 to stay in that PTK. NHT is in the bag, 3.0 only needed. If I drop below 3.0, I will have to thwack myself, and everyone else in here can have a turn.
5. Get my Count on here up to 5k. :D And 4K of it being Access issues. (OK, may be a bit hard, but will try)
I can keep 1-4, 5 will be an ongoing process.
3 Stop being so shy. (yes it is true folks, I am VERY shy, quiet and reserved).
Ditto :)
selenau837 12-30-2005, 11:38 AM Ditto :)
NJudson 12-30-2005, 11:48 AM I don't believe in New Years resolutions. I think that if there is something about my life that I want to change then there are 365 (except for leap years :p ) perfectly good days out of the year to start. Just my opinion though.
Hope every has a safe and happy New Years! :D
Jacob Mathai 12-30-2005, 11:58 AM - more organized at home in keeping important records. The current situation is Lucy Gucy. My wife is not happy with the present situation. I already bought a nice file folder for this purpose.
- Climb the staircase instead of using the elevator ('lift' for UK folks) at our office building
- Save more money for retirement. Plan to retire in 3 years.
- Learn Microsoft EXCEL advanced functions.
selenau837 12-30-2005, 12:29 PM same ;)
I was very shy when I started here, and then my li'l squirelle, and the kindness here brought me out of my shell. When I get to know people I am friendly and talkative
Perhaps, I need to be like that all the time. Most people think I am stuckup due to my shy nature.

I see, so now you're losing the shell, we can delve deeper?

Thanks for not brining out my really bad spelling and grammar there. Wheeww....
Do you want do delve deeper Rich? :D ;)

selenau837 12-30-2005, 12:48 PM how deep could I burrow? ;)
As deep as you dare to go darlin'. ;) But beware, you may or may not like what you find. I am guessing like, but who knows.
statsman 12-30-2005, 08:00 PM [QUOTE=selenau837]Thanks for not brining out my really bad spelling and grammar there. Wheeww....
I wish I could impress on people posting with Access problems exactly how important SPELLING is
TessB 12-30-2005, 08:34 PM I don't do resolutions either. I was sick... very sick... and I could barely breathe the Sunday before Christmas. So... since I couldn't breathe, do you think I was all that keen on smoking? er.... no. Now, in the past couple of months, my mother, my uncle, and my brother-in-law have all announced that they have cancer. The universe was pretty much screaming at me to quit. I had bought the patches in preparation. Then, when I got sick, after three days, I put a nicotine patch on. I wore patches for 4 days, and then went without anything.
So far, it's been 9 days....
I'm a little pissed that I could have just quit on Jan 1st and had 10 more days of my precious habit, but this was really the best way... and easiest. I didn't have to build up determination and quit. I freaking couldn't breathe!!! It was easy to abstain during these days. It does get harder every day though. (Believe it or not!)
selenau837 12-31-2005, 11:41 AM Yup, this is my last day. Counting down the hours!!!

I am just stating that I want to keep my Grade Point Average up. PTK and NHT are both groups that you have to apply to join. In order to join you have to have a High GPA. It is a great honor for me to be accepted (if I am). I have never been an A student, and now I am. So I am trying to say I want to stay and 'A' student.
I am tired, do I make sense....perhaps I need to make a resolutin to try and say what I mean. :D
Bat17 01-01-2006, 01:05 AM :) Makes sense now. You did say what you mean, but the problem was that I did not understand the 'Jargon'.

No problem. ;)
alastair69 01-01-2006, 09:41 AM How is it going with the stopping smoking.
TessB 01-01-2006, 10:55 AM You probably meant this for Selena, but I'll answer for myself.
So far so good. Had some friends over for New Years Eve and they both smoke. Sat outside with them all night while they puffed away. Definitely wanted to join them and was ambivalent when, as they were leaving, one of them dumped the remains of their used ashtray in the garbage bin. I'm certain I would have been quite tempted to scrounge for a half smoked cigarette. (There were a few of those.) So, I still think about it, last night I dreamed about it, but I haven't succumbed yet.
Newman 01-01-2006, 11:15 AM My resolution is to lost weight. I am actualy at 260 pounds and I want to be 180 for december 2006. That is 1 pound and a half per week.
Yesterday, right after midnight, they served a cold buffet and that was very tempting. Everyone was telling me that resolutions start the morning after, but I wanted to make it right away. So, I only ate half a sandwich with some veggies and forgot about the coldcuts, salads and desserts.
From now on, I'm going to take care of my choice when making myself a lunch, will try to do less business meetings in restaurants and do some walk every day.
Also, I'd like to take more time to be with my girlfriend. 2005 has been a big year for my company, going from home business to having an office in Montreal and going from doing it alone with a friend of mine to having five partners/employees and going from 70 000$ to 150 000$. It was great, but demanding and my girlfriend was stepped aside. For 2006, I'll give more rope to my partners and spend some good time with my girlfriend.
And for the business, I just want it to keep on growing, but a little more slowly. I'd like to have a couple more employees and getting to a quarter of a million. «Quarter of a million»... It sounds so much more than 250 000$. :D
I wish, to you all, that the best happens to you in 2006. Have fun and enjoy life!
Newman 01-01-2006, 11:21 AM [...]Sat outside[...]
I wish I could say the same thing, but with -20C (~0F) to -30C (~-20F)with the wind factor. We stayed inside.

Yes, well, it was a little chilly but when I pulled down the sleeves of my sweatshirt, I was fine. I think it got down to about 60 last night.

How exciting! And how brave of you to venture out on your own and take responsibility for your own financial destiny. I wish I was that brave, but I've not come up with a good enough idea for a business yet. I do have a few ideas, but I'm the type of person that needs to know the odds are highly in her favour. Not sure how to begin to research the viability of the businesses I have in mind.
selenau837 01-01-2006, 06:01 PM *twitches*
One whole day no smoking!!! Grrr....but making it. *left eye twitches* :D :D
Nah, it is going well. Tess and I both will do great! We are VERY strong women and we won't let some plant beat us.

Whats that Rich? your mind is boggled??
dt01pqt 01-02-2006, 09:43 AM I am a regular at a badminton club. Every first week January loads of people suddenly turn up really keen. In fact last year there were so many people there was deadlock. It was hard to get a game. Then after the next week or so you never see them again. New Years resolutions....;)
PS, next resolution is to go to Travel Agency and set up a trip to the England, Scottland
be sure to pack an umbrella ;)
Hayley Baxter 01-02-2006, 11:15 AM It's something I very seldom do is make a new years resolution, stopping smoking is one of the most common ones. My fiance has tried to give up and failed to do so. My brother seems to be doing quite well though, he stopped smoking last August. I've never smoked, tried it once but didn't like it. I know it can't be an easy thing to give up so Tess and Selena, I wish you the best of luck!
I guess I could try to be more organised this year. I'm always rushing around at the last minute, late for everything! My fiance says he'll tell me the wedding is 3 hours earlier than it actually is so I turn up on time :p
Perhaps Rich will even post a clear up to date picture this year! He's maybe decided to show us all what he really looks like  Perhaps Selena can work her magic and tempt him to post a pic.......;)
I hope everyone had a fab New Year! Mine was a little different this year, first year I've actually ventured out of the house. We had tickets for one of our local pubs. It was a really good night. How did everyone spend their new year? Hope you all had a good one and good luck to all with your New Years resolutions.
Hay
Perhaps Rich will even post a clear up to date picture this year! Hay
He's posted more than anybody else, they just got lost when the forum got stuffed :p

Well giving up "lying" certainly wasn't one of Richey's new year resolutions :p :D .....shame on you!
Hay
selenau837 01-02-2006, 11:38 AM be sure to pack an umbrella ;)
And rain jacked and water boots eh.
I will be easy to pick out of a crowd. Red head all decked out in yellow rain gear, purple or green umbrella, waving to everyone and saying, "Hello Y'all" ;)
selenau837 01-02-2006, 11:44 AM Perhaps Selena can work her magic and tempt him to post a pic.......;)
What, am I the Lion tamer of the Forum now. *giggles*
Ok, Rich, look deep into my eyes, *waves hand* Post a picture for all of us single women out here. I know you want to let us see how studdly and incrediably handsome and debanier you are. We all know how intelligent you are. So show us the hadsom face that goes with that sexy mind of yours. *purrss* ;)

Hmmm not impressed by that comment! Don't you think I've suffered enough. I can't even get into the stadium at the minute as my smartcard is faulty :( Luckily the chap on Saturday had a spare...going to tell Rangers ticket centre off. They were paid back in May :(
We had Arsenal fans with us on Saturday at the game, who preferred celtic previously, think I've converted them! Nice work eh.....;)

selenau837 01-03-2006, 11:13 AM Ok, now why in the hades did I decide to quiet smoking. Of all the freaking times of the year to quit. *toss up hands*
AHHHHHHH!!!!
Thought ranting would help, but noooo!!! It doesn't.!.!
Ok, you x-smokers, help would be greatedly apprieciated. Advice, anything!! Where's Rich, or Col. A good heated debate (that I know I can win) would be great right about now.
Co-workers are steering clear because the Southern Belle is slowly being consumed by the Southern Beast!!!!
Can't have that. I just spent 70$ on my hair and can't have it ruined.. Sure wish I had that back for a carton of cigs.
A good heated debate (that I know I can win)
impossible :p
I just spent 70$ on my hair and can't have it ruined.
70$, is that a wig?
selenau837 01-03-2006, 11:49 AM impossible :p
Never say impossible. You underestimate me my dear friend. When it is a topic I am rather familiar with, and have true convictions on, I can debate with the best of you guys. :p
70$, is that a wig?[/
A Wig!! Flippin' no. Are you implying my hair looks like a wig!! A cheap wig at that. My hair is very long and thick. So anytime I go to the salon it is very expensive. :p
I could go bald like you Rich, but I don't think I would look as good as you. However, if you want to post a pic and prove me that you aren't bald go for it Richy boy!.
However, bald does look really sexy on most men.

No gold plating. Again, I have long, think naturaly curly hair. It takes time and a well skilled stylist to cut my hair. In other words, a nightmare for the stylist. I am willng to pay because I have gone to some and I come out looking like Rich!! It was horrible.
I am sure the other ladies know exactly what I am talking about.

Only those that waste money

Yeah, I'm in trouble if he can't find a mate and had to adveritse online. I'm doomed to single life then.
That's ok for now, I can play, flirt and have fun now. I'm going to enjoy my single life for the time being.

Mile-O 01-11-2006, 04:00 AM Resolutions this year...
No smokes
Less booze. I tried no booze but relented fast after watching my friends spiral into inanity whilst I watched.
No book buying. I have set an embargo to stop buying books until I've read the 70 or 80 I've bought but "not got round to yet". I may relent for some reference material (new dictionary and thesaurus) and the paperback edition of Kazuo Ishiguro's fantastic Never Let Me Go in March.
Save. I've been meaning to start. :o
Write more. I've started my first novel so I'm trying to work on it regularly.

Worked for my friend. Well, sort of. He doesn't actually know he's available online.

Less Booze is definately the best approach, you can't deprive yourself completely :) didn't you start cutting down on the booze etc and stop smoking last year
I seem to remember you trying to be a bit healthier etc when you joined the gym, still going? I considered the gym but the one nearby me is membership only and to be honest for the price of the membership you would need to be using the gym at least 3 to 4 times a week to be getting your money's worth (or at least when I last checked that was the case) and I don't have that sort of time during a week so it just wasn't worth it. Weekends are obviously best for this sort of thing with no work commitments but when it came down to the choice of gym or football, there was no competition
Gosh you seriously buy way too many books  I'm surprised you have space for them all! I'm a bit like that when it comes to music. I don't really care very much for the tv but music is my life and I've seriously no space for anymore cds :D
What kind of material do you write? Sounds interesting! I like to read every now and again but writing is not really my thing.

Everyone's own choice I guess, I believe many people have found happiness over the internet. I personally wouldn't do anything like that, you either meet someone or you don't is my view.

I never joined. My sister's fiance has a huge barbell bench which I used for a while until he became busy with work and uni that he was never in to use it.
Gosh you seriously buy way too many books
I can buy up to fifteen per month. And I still use the public library to take books out in bulk too.
I'm surprised you have space for them all!
If I'm being honest, I don't. They are stacked two deep in the bookcases.
music is my life and I've seriously no space for anymore cds :D
I know. I joined www.last.fm last night which is great for music. You install a plugin to Media Player, or whatever, and it uploads what you are listening to onto the site. You can then, over time, view your musical tastes statistically. And, of course, you can find people with similar tastes who may know stuff you haven't heard of. I'm here (http://www.last.fm/user/MileStyle). Early days, ho hum!
What kind of material do you write? Sounds interesting!
I suppose it would be called General Fiction. You know, the good stuff! No spaceships or dragons for me, thank you very much. I'm trying to set more stuff in and around Glasgow rather than fictional locations. My last short story, currently redrafting, was about blacksmithing and was set in my area during the 1840s.
I like to read every now and again

I hope your team has more success than the Gers
ColinEssex 01-11-2006, 06:14 AM I've made the resolution to
continue smoking - maybe smoke even more
to increase the booze intake. Its about a bottle per week of Vodka at the mo.
Avoid religion religiously
Avoid any form of exercise - if I can't park within 50yards of it, don't go
Ignore the "don't eat this, its bad for you" do gooders - I'll eat what and when I want.
Not give money to any organisation putting envelopes through doors - except animal charities.
Not give to the Salvation Army since they refused a gift of £50,000 because the man won it in the lottery - they've obviously got enough money to turn down £50K
Be really nasty to "cold" phone callers selling things
To happily tell Conservative candidates I'm not voting for them because of their snobby Eton educated leader enjoys killing foxes with dogs.

Well. . . . . . Whats the point in giving things up if you enjoy them? Bad for you??? so what? we'll probobly all get bird flu anyway in a couple of months.
'Er indoors and me always have a soft spot for the animal charities rather than hypocritical Christian type do gooders. The RSPCA do a fab job as do the PDSA etc etc
