I assume that you may have seen this gem: Debbie Wasserman Schultz Doesn't Know What a Socialist Is

I've run across some occasional opinion pieces that imply that the Democratic Party is attempting to neutralize Sanders, similar to what the Republicans did to Ron Paul.

Argh, that one's always painful to watch. She looked like an idiot, but she was also right in that he was trying to basically frame all Democrats as socialists rather than focus on the differences between D and R. He, on the other hand, comes across as trying to do a really bad smear job on Democrats ("SEE??? THEY'RE ALL SOCIALISTS OR SHE'D BE ABLE TO TELL THE DIFFERENCE!!!!"). I mean, that's right there with someone asking - I dunno, Ted Cruz or Mike Huckabee, let's say - what the difference between a Republican and a fascist is. There are, believe it or not, quite a few matching points in avowed stances, but that doesn't make it a fair or remotely honest question.

(The answer to both would be "One is a political party, the other is a socio-political ideology", btw.)

As to the Dems and Sanders, let's face it. He LEFT the party because he refused to toe the party line, and they know for a fact that if he gets elected President, he's going to do what he thinks is best rather than what the Dem leadership wants him to do. He has repeatedly taken incredibly unpopular stances based on his convictions, such as voting against the PATRIOT act and the invasion of Afghanistan, and has never been big on playing the game by the establishment's back-room rules. He really isn't part of the establishment, and I'm sure would have the capacity to do a lot of damage to the existing political machine if he became President. I'm sure the Dem leadership would VASTLY prefer Clinton to a guy they KNOW won't do what they want him to do, not to mention being a little scared of his electability due to the whole "Democratic socialist" admissions.

That said, however, right now it looks like it's either Sanders or Clinton, and we all know the GOP has spent the last 12 years getting ready for a fight against her.

As to your second post, good for her! This early in the game, anyone with any reasonable backing should be included.

Hopefully this time around there will be more questions on policy stances and less on whether or not The Donald will run an independent campaign.
