import problem (1 Viewer)

I am trying to import a table (.dbf) into Access 97.

I get the message "can't define field more than once"

What is my problem and how can I fix it?

Duplicated field name, probably.

When you do the import, go into the dialog. At some point it might show you a list of fields to be imported. There should be scroll bars associated with that display. See if you have the same name appearing more than once in the list of fields to be imported.

Also, see if maybe one of the fields is an array (which you cannot do in Access and you SHOULDN'T do in anything else...)

You were right - fields had the same name (duh! - actually, I had orignally given the fields different names, but they were truncated and ended up with the same field names)
