if you notice that in a querydef you will find yourself, that you need to change the SQL statement, is it still a good idea to use querydefs ?

I guess not.

the best place to use querydefs, in my experience, is to alter the query source for reports, on the fly, instead of having to write a bazillion similar reports. . .

other than that, if I read your question correctly,

I haven't found myself yet, but i really don't think i will find myself in a querydef.
