"The section is greater than page width..." (1 Viewer)

Hi, I'm fairly new to MS ACCESS, but I've been navigating through without many problems.

I'm trying to fix a problem with a report I'm working on. The report fits on my preview screen, but it has 4 pages...2 of which are completely blank. The 1st and 3rd pages have needed text and labels and such. I'm not sure how to remove the blank pages from in between...

Also, probably related, is the error The section width is greater than the page width, and there are no items in the additional space, so some pages may be blank.

Has anyone else had this problem? I'm going to keep messing with it, but I am at a loss right now of how to remove the blank pages and get rid of the error message when I go to print or preview.

Also in the print preview area there is a setup button by the close button, on the tab marked columns if you uncheck the same as detail marker it will allow you to set the page size. Good luck.

This is frustrating!

I have changed my margins to narrow. I do not have anything out there on the left side. My data is all printed two inches in.

How do I move the width of the design over so it will be within the length of the page.

Thanks for the how to. It sure is not obvious. I been fishing for one hour today.

I have a 3 page report printing as 6 pages.

you do - its not the left side - its the right side

the width of the page is wider than the printed report, so it wont fit. but there are no controls so you just get blank pages printed.

grab the right side of the report (the grey background!) , and close it up to the right most control - you cant go any further than that.

that will fix it.

and obviously you can only see the problem in design mode.

What view do you do the drag in?
Design?

I have the page in design view down to 7 inches.
The page is 8 1/2 x 11.

I am going to External Data - PDF and get a 6 page document with every other page blank, yuck.

I still keep getting the width is too long?

In the Jpeg it looks like 7 3/4 and if the margins are 1/2 in then it would be too wide.

I brought the width down below 7 and one half the error presists..

It looks as though you'll have to attach it for somebody to look at, however I suspect its 2007 so it wont be me

This is the default setting of a report's width:

19.709cm

Try setting it with that value.

Solved - At Last...

It was ok even at 8 inches.. Problem had do to with Page set-up options.

In the Database window, select the form, and then click Design View to open the form in Design view.
On the View menu, click Properties, and then click the Format tab.
On the File menu, click Page Setup, and then click the Page tab.
Make sure that the total value of the Width property of the form plus the printer margins does not exceed the specified page width in the Page Setup dialog box.
Make sure that the orientation of the page in the Page Setup dialog box matches the form's width and height.
Click the Columns tab in the Page Setup dialog box, click to select the Same as Detail check box under Column Size, and then click OK to not allow the column size to be larger than the form size.

That's the problem for us problem solvers, we don't always have all the facts.

Microsoft's error messages have always been pretty useless, covering a multitude of sins.

but there's two things

if the paper isnt wide enough for the print, it will print on 2 pages - and sometimes you get a tiny bit of a horizontal line doing that

but if the section is too wide, and there's nothing on it, it will print blank pages - and this is what you had

As well as the page design you can see, you also have to consider the page margins. You might get a report to fit by reducing the left and right margins. Is that what you did?
