i understand evolution, what i don't understand is your concerns about snakes' heads?

snakes actually seem a very good example for showing evolution to lay people: their vestigial limbs show something that evolution has let ebb away, no designer would leave them in

as for half an eye is better than no eye: this always seems like the Watchmaker argument rephrased to me? creationists alway cite that kind of argument for a creator, saying that an eye is complex and couldn't evolve

it's a debunked argument. it's circular and shows a lack of understanding about evolution

Legless lizards are exactly that, lizards without legs and not even remotely like a snake.

Complain to Richard Dawkins and others about the "half an eye is better than no eye" it is one of their prime examples or illustrations.

The trip from no eye to half an eye to a full eye does not have the type of problem I am referring to which is why it is a favoure with fellows like Dawkins. The lizard to snake is completely different. Anyone who has kept reptiles will tell you that a lizard's jaws work just fine but they would be useless on the way to snake jaws.

Shane - as I said, there were no problems prior to 2003. But I have to say that there were and still are several American posters here who like to stir things up a bit.

Do you understand the difference between a lizard and snake? Since you have such a high education and are all out evolution that should be known to you.

Modern lizard jaws are basically the same as the archosaur. The jaw structure of a snake is totally differentb to moden lizard, archosaur and about any other reptile or mammal you could think of. To function the snake's jaws are very dependent on all the other attributes of a snake.

In short, if it took 10 million years to get from lizard to snake about 8 or 9 million of those years would mean an amimal that was useless. That is why Dawkins and Co stick to the "half an eye is better than no eye" example. The reason is simple. Obviously the animal can't see with half an eye but that is not a problem since it never it had an eye to start with.

As a side note I basically believe in evolution but I think there are some huge holes and the missing parts of the puzzle are there because of how life kicked off is not known.

It is not just lizard to snake. Another one is theropod to bird. A bird has all its power in the chest area, thus we buy the breast meat of chicken. On the other hand the theropod is kangaroo style, very small in the chest and huge in the hip/rear leg area.

Your rants don't offend me, and I occasionally even agree with you. But surely you are not saying everything was peachy until 2003? First of all, the U.S. has a long history of inflicting terrorism on the world, Bush wasn't the first. Second of all, Bush (like other imperial presidents before him) would not have had the license to do the damage he did were it not for the corrupt and/or blindly trusting senators, like Hillary Clinton and John McCain, who signed his blank check.
It might surprise you to know that there are non-U.S. news sources available to us here, other than you and Rich ofcourse, and some of us even partake of them.

Being more highly educated than the average American - ie being an atheist and reviewing non US news sources outside of Jerry Springers UK shows, I would think of as a compliment.

It assumes that you are better than the rest. ( I can see why you could think it may be a backhanded compliment - is that the right expression?, ie that most americans were thick as bricks and you were better - but I didn't say that.)
