Database slow on terminal server running Access Runtime

Thanks guys everyone for all your help. Sorry, I've been totally overloaded last few days with project work, and even though this affects everyone in the company every day it had to take a back seat for a bit. You have all provided another great tranche of investigative work for me to follow up...

Database slow on terminal server running Access Runtime

And just to be super clear, I can RDP into my office local machine from home and run the "single file" db on it and it is super fast. If I RDP into the Terminal server from home and run a copy of the same file on it, I get the slowness.

Database slow on terminal server running Access Runtime

And it still exhibits all the slowness like that.

Database slow on terminal server running Access Runtime

PS. I perhaps should have clarified in my original post that the only access anyone has to the Terminal Server is by RDP (even inside the office on ethernet via the local network), and so even in the case where I have a single-file (no FE/BE) with only 1 user (me) on the TS it is still via RDP...

Database slow on terminal server running Access Runtime

Yes we did try both those things in our testing, but thanks for your suggestions!

Database slow on terminal server running Access Runtime

Thanks so much for your response. I haven't, mainly because we don't have a spare client and all of them have full Access on them, so I've been reluctant to muck around with them. But your suggestion makes me realise I need to get hold of a machine somehow to test that. I had thought of getting...

Database slow on terminal server running Access Runtime

Hi there, I have done an enormous amount of testing of different scenarios, and my issue boils down to what could be making a database (not split) run slow on a terminal server running Access Runtime when the same database is running lightning fast on all local machines. Let me clarify a couple...

Network Split Database Slowness- with a twist!

Hi Pat, thanks for the reply. It doesn't seem to make a difference. The UNC path behaves the same as the "network drive" path via RDP on our system i.e. unacceptably slow. And yes, regarding FE on the server via RDP, I have an exe which first reads the user's windows username and then opens the...

Network Split Database Slowness- with a twist!

Hi Gasman, thanks for the reply- actually, I just meant that they told me they preferred not to share the full drive, but rather a folder within the drive. Since my application requires all users to have some level of access to it then I understood them to be saying that it's not good practice...

Network Split Database Slowness- with a twist!

Hi Everyone, Thanks so much for all your responses. It’s been a while, but that’s because I’ve been doing a lot of testing as and when I get the chance. I reckon I’ve cracked my problem now, and I thought I’d share the results of my experience in case it might help someone. Firstly, can I say...

Network Split Database Slowness- with a twist!

Again, thanks so much for your response. It makes sense, and I really do want to have a local client on each computer like I had on the old server. We had it set up on the old server mapping to Z:, which seemed to work fine. I'm not sure where Z:\ actually was, perhaps it worked because it was...

Network Split Database Slowness- with a twist!

Sorry about the cross-posting, I'm a newbie and I didn't realise it was a no-no. I'll never do that again! Thanks so much for your response. We have one server disk (Windows Server) with partitions. I do want to have local FEs but this problem is preventing me, because the BE has to be on the C...

Network Split Database Slowness- with a twist!

i guys, I've got a very specific split database/network problem. I have created a front end/back end solution and when I install the back end onto the company C: drive and the front end anywhere else (eg. other partitions on the server with a different drive letter) everything is fine and...
