one last update before i wait for a response: there is another user of Access 2003 that is able to view linked tables with no problem. we have been unable to find a difference in the setup.

it seems that when i 'import' a table it displays fine. when i bring it in as a 'linked' table the #Deleted problem appears. is this the proper forum for a question like this?

we've also tried syncing the client characterset to the database characterset.
