Prevent record creation if form is null

Because I don't want to be at fault... :) Seriously, I'm not sure. Here's the best I can do to explain: -When my DB opens, you have to login (using a form I created). -After logging in, it takes you to the Main Menu (the one with 4 tabs). It opens in acFormAdd mode (is this the issue? and if...

Prevent record creation if form is null

Hi everyone. I could use your help. Nutshell: My user DB has one menu with 4 tabs (2 for adding records, and 2 for searching/editing records). Since the form opens up in the acFormAdd mode, Access already creates a new record (blank) before they type anything. It is resulting in blank false...

    Split database security

Unfortunately, that isn't an option here. I could always just hide the back end - somewhere where they can access it of course. But I'm still wondering, if I create a login requirement on the back end and only allow me, will they be able to update the front end and have it transfer to the...

    Split database security

Hi, I have a database that I just split into a front/back end, and have a question about protecting the back end data. I know that the back end must be in a place the front end user can access, but do they have to actually be able to open and access the back end for the links from the front...

Default value of field not translating to table

Fixed it! The field that I was wanting to update with a default value on the two tabs was sending the info to the same field in the table (Item_Type). For some reason, it was only allowing one value instead of the two. I created an OnDirty event for each tab to change the value to TypeA or...

Default value of field not translating to table

No subforms. Just separate tabs with text/combo/check boxes for data entry/editing.

Default value of field not translating to table

Thanks for the quick reply. That's the way it's setup. My main menu has several tabs, two of which are for adding a new "Type A" record and adding a new "Type B" record. The default value is associated with those tabs. My main menu form also has four more tabs - one each for...

Default value of field not translating to table

I've looked all over and can't find the answer... My DB has one main table where all the records are stored, and one form with multiple tabs allowing for data entry and editing. There are two distinct "Data Types" I have in the tables, so on the two distinct form tabs, I created a text box...

Access will no longer allow me to save records

I will look into splitting. I haven't done that yet since this is a small DB. There are 20ish of us that can use it, but only 3 or 4 use it regularlly, and it isn't a daily usage - maybe several times a month. But, I will take your advice and do it. Thanks!

Access will no longer allow me to save records

So, I found the culprit. I was using Allen Browne's method for logging user activity found here. It tells you to create 4 events for your form in the Before Update, After Update, On Delete, and After Delete Confirm fields in the properties. I removed those events and now everything works...

Access will no longer allow me to save records

Hi, First, I wish I had more details as to what happened, but I'm at a loss. The short of it is that my forms will no longer allow me to add/edit records. It gives me this error: You can't save this record at this time. Microsoft Access may have encountered an error while trying to save a...

Disable navigation pane, not just minimize/hide it

Awesome! Thank you. Would have never thought of that. I disabled the shortcut keys, but had no idea there was a bypass. Thanks again!

Disable navigation pane, not just minimize/hide it

Forgive me, but what is the "Shift-Bypass" you speak of?

Disable navigation pane, not just minimize/hide it

I answered my own question. I just disabled the modal property of the form. Works like a charm. Thanks for all your help.
