Okay - I have solved the problem by creating a main group and putting the sums in the group footer instead of the report footer. Still don't understand why the report footer has to go onto a separate page though. Ronnie

They're set to that already. Just in case of any misunderstanding, I don't mean that it's splitting up the details on every record. It's just where the last one doesn't fit on the page, it continues onto the next page whereas I would like it to insert a page break so that it moves the details...

Thanks for that RV - according to the link you posted, I need to now "compact and repair" my database, I assume? I'm worried about ruining the whole thing by doing something wrong so any further guidance/hints would be greatly appreciated. Sorry to sound stupid but I'm not terribly technical...
