you cant convert an existing number field to an autonumber field. The FW is a concatted text field. The existing number field is the unique ID and all the related tables use this number field.

    Unique ID issue

Thanks theDBguy The problem is that they have all there parts labeled in three stores and the unique Part ID sequence also needs to be maintained. Creating an autonumber field will mean a change to all the existing part numbers.

    Unique ID issue

Hi All - I hope I am in the right area for this. I have a parts database for which the initial data was was originally held in an excel spreadsheet. The existing parts ID had a text(alpha) prefix (eg FW2327). In order to maintain the sequence which was insisted upon, I built an unbound form to...

    Query not returning all records

Thanks Isladog - I fixed it by filtering on SaleDate: Format([DateSold],"Short Date") to remove the time component which I needed for the transaction log. I was surprised because I didn't realise after all these years of using Access that the time component was considered in the query in that...

Best Way to Host Access Databases

Yes Pat is right - I have tried the VPN route also and it is way too slow. I currently have one clients application located on hired TS and costs them $200 month for 3 users of 5 possible users for that price which is the cheapest price I could find. The performance is very good though as the FE...

Best Way to Host Access Databases

In the scenario I spoke about, the front end of the application (forms, code modules etc) are stored in the profile of each TS user, and the back end ( either access or sqlServer tables) is resident in a shared network folder either on the server or a network attached device. As The Doc Man...
