Have you ever been pressured into building something with a bad design?

You can't get away with anything in the UK with Jane Marple poking her nose in everyone's business. And if she doesn't get ya well then Endeavor Morse will. And don't even get me started on DCI Barnaby (both of them). Obviously, my wife is addicted to BritBox...

On our side of the pond, at least some of those shows pop up on BBC America and a couple of other associated channels. My wife likes to watch detective dramas and has found the British offerings along those lines. Therefore, I recognize some of the names.

My neighbor who owns a machine shop wants me to upgrade an A2003 app I built for his Dad back in 2006. This was the first Access app I ever built. I haven't touched this app in 15 years. The app works, but I wasn't experienced when I built it, so I will have to refactor lots of code, and get rid of forms like "CashCustomers" ... Yeah, I used to let stakeholders talk me into doing ridiculous requests, like "I wan't a separate form for cash customers". Have you ever been persuaded into building something you knew was utterly ridiculous?
Depending on what fields are prompted, I can see a separate form that is used with cash purchases to avoid prompting for payment method. This is especially true when you don't want an employee to "Accidentally" print out the "Paid in cash" receipt for a CC or invoice purchase. May even require manager's input to accept.

This would be a "Business flow" question that doesn't affect data tables. Then again, I had to do some of this stuff for casino management, so I KNOW just to annoying different requirements for the "Same" transaction can be.

Where there is cash there is a theft.
Systems for waste management and others dealing with the building trade with cash payments are an example. I know of companies who delete all cash transactions after invoicing with thousands of tickets removed. The tax authorities never check up mainly because they don't know how, or haven't a clue. All they need to do is to look for missing transaction numbers. Today it seems that many people in work haven't a clue, particularly civil servants.

TIP! If you go to a pub, or a restaurant, always make sure you get a receipt. Virtually everyone I see will order, offer the card and refuse a receipt. Which is something you should never do. The reason is that staff can add a charge to your card and later take it from the till. Years ago we went to a national chain, ordered a meal and drinks and as usual asked for the receipt. When the bank entries were checked a week or so later, just over £3 had been added to the bill. When challenged their management claimed that the charge from one till had dropped on to another. So a locked record just decided to slip over onto another? Well that makes total sense doesn't it? And yes we got our money back and some!

I see all the time where someone will buy a drink, offer their card and not take the receipt. I would not be surprised if many or all of those transactions have ghost drinks added. Always get a receipt.

Doc, if she gets a chance, tell her to look at Foyle's War.
I still watch the repeats. :)

I once had a $5 tip changed to $50. I disputed the entire amount and won! I always get a receipt and I reconcile my credit card statements.
