OP never specified but since they said "it didn't work" I am guessing they are using DAO because GetString won't show with intellisense for DAO recordset. GetRows shows for both. But they really need...

Conditional Formatting can be used only with textbox and combobox. Set BackColor to white then create two CF rules for Yes and No values. Is this a Yes/No field? Yes/No field cannot have Null.

Good point.

Still wonder why using asterisk characters.

I always use Null instead of empty string in UNION. That way not mixing number or date fields with empty string value.

Reference combobox columns by index. Index begins with 0. So:
